Arusha to Ndutu (Southern Serengeti)

Your safari begins with breakfast at your accommodation in Arusha, followed by a scenic drive to the Ndutu area, located within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and forming part of the southern Serengeti ecosystem. Ndutu is renowned for its short-grass plains, which are highly nutritious and attract vast numbers of wildlife, especially during the wildebeest calving season from December to April. Lake Ndutu, an alkaline Rift Valley lake, is a vital water source for elephants, zebras, wildebeest, and a variety of bird species. Upon arrival, your guide will lead you on a game drive to spot resident wildlife including elephants, gazelles, and numerous bird species. In the evening, you will check in at your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight stay. Accommodation: Nyikani Migration Camp.

Game drive in the Southern Serengeti

After an early breakfast, you will embark on a full-day game drive across the Southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains, following the great wildebeest migration depending on its current location within the Serengeti National Park or Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Between December and March, these plains serve as a birthing ground for thousands of young wildebeest, offering unparalleled wildlife viewing opportunities. Predators such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas are often seen hunting, creating one of the most dramatic and unforgettable wildlife spectacles in Africa. Throughout the day, your guide will point out other resident wildlife, from zebras and gazelles to elephants and numerous bird species. The afternoon game drive concludes around 5:00 pm, after which you will return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

Following breakfast, you will depart for the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations. Descend to the crater floor for a game drive, where over 25,000 resident animals roam in a natural amphitheater formed millions of years ago. The crater is home to nearly every species found in the East African savannah, including the Big Five black rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion, and leopard. Other commonly sighted wildlife includes wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and more than 500 recorded bird species. With some luck, you may spot the endangered black rhino grazing among the grasses.

After your game drive, you will ascend the crater rim and drive back to Arusha, where the safari concludes with a drop-off at your hotel or transfer to the airport for your departure.
