Located in northern Tanzania and covering approximately 14,750 square kilometers, the Serengeti is globally celebrated for hosting the largest terrestrial mammal migration in the world. Each year, over 1.5 million wildebeest, along with hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, traverse its ecosystem in a circular search for fresh grazing and water, closely followed by predators such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. Yet the Serengeti’s uniqueness goes beyond the migration—it is a sanctuary of immense ecological variety. Its expansive savannas, granite kopjes, riverine forests, and seasonal wetlands support over 500 bird species and 70 large mammal species, making it one of the richest wildlife areas on the planet.
