The journey begins at Umbwe Gate (1,630m), where you’ll start your trek through the lush rainforest of Kilimanjaro. As you ascend, the path winds through dense vegetation, offering a serene and tranquil atmosphere. This section of the trek is steep, providing a gradual introduction to the mountain’s challenges. After approximately 5-6 hours of steady hiking, you will reach Umbwe Camp (2,850m), nestled in the rainforest, where you’ll spend the night and begin your acclimatization process.

Day 2
Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp
Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp
On Day 2, you leave Umbwe Camp and begin a steep ascent that takes you to the Barranco Wall. This section is challenging, but the views and scenery are breathtaking. After reaching the top of the wall, the trail descends into the Barranco Valley (3,950 m), where you’ll reach Barranco Camp. The camp is set in a beautiful location with great views of the mountain and surrounding area. This is also a great spot for acclimatization, as you'll be at a higher altitude.

Distance: 7 kilometers (4.3 miles)
Time: 6-7 hours

Day 3
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

After a restful night at Barranco Camp, you’ll tackle the Barranco Wall again, which is a steep but short section. Once at the top, the trail undulates across the hills with beautiful panoramic views. You’ll descend into the Karanga Valley, which offers a slightly easier section of the hike. You’ll then arrive at Karanga Camp, which is a great spot for another night of acclimatization. It's a short day to help with altitude adaptation, ensuring you stay healthy for the more difficult days ahead.

Day 4
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Involves a relatively short but steady hike to Barafu Camp. The path ascends through rocky terrain, and you will notice the environment getting more barren as you get higher. By the time you reach Barafu Camp (4,673 m), the altitude will start to affect you more. It’s essential to stay hydrated and rest well, as you'll be resting here before your summit attempt. Barafu Camp is the base for the summit push, so make sure you get a good night’s sleep, even if you may be feeling excited or nervous for the next day.
Elevation: 4,035 meters (13,267 feet) to 4,673 meters (15,331 feet)
Distance: 4 kilometers (2.5 miles)
Time: 4-5 hours
Hiking: Steady ascent with some rocky terrain.

Day 5
Barafu Camp to Summit (Uhuru Peak) to Mweka Camp

This is the big day—the summit push. You'll start very early, around midnight or 1 AM, to reach Uhuru Peak for sunrise. The climb is steep, and the final stretch is often quite challenging due to the high altitude and the cold. However, the views and sense of accomplishment upon reaching the summit are unparalleled. After spending some time at the top, you begin your descent to Mweka Camp (3,100 m) for a well-deserved rest. The descent can be hard on the knees, but it’s essential to take it slow and stay hydrated.
Elevation: 4,673 meters (15,331 feet) to 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) to 3,100 meters (10,171 feet)
Distance: 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) up, 13 kilometers (8 miles) down
Time: 6-8 hours up, 5-7 hours down

Day 6

Overview:
After a good night’s rest, you’ll begin the final descent from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,640 m). This is a longer but less strenuous day as you descend through the lush rainforest zone, passing various vegetation zones as you head back to the starting point. Once you reach Mweka Gate, you will complete your trek, sign out, and receive your summit certificate. This is a time to relax and celebrate your incredible achievement!

Day 7
Departure from Mweka Gate
Departure from Mweka Gate
After completing your descent to Mweka Gate, you’ll be transferred to nearby Moshi or Arusha for your departure. Here, you can relax and celebrate your success with a warm meal, reflection, and rest before heading back home or to your next destination.
