It's a thunderous roar, the swirling foam, and the sheer force of the water are mesmerizing, we drive out of the park to the sanctuary. Ziwa is the only place in Uganda where you can see wild rhinos. This sanctuary was established to reintroduce rhinos after they were wiped out in the 1980s due to poaching.
After a safety briefing, you’ll head out on foot with an experienced ranger. The tracking usually lasts 1 to 2 hours, depending on the rhinos’ location. You’ll Walk through bushland and savannah, quietly approaching these massive creatures. It’s a humbling experience to stand just meters away from a white rhino, watching it graze or wallow in the mud. Besides rhinos, the sanctuary is home to antelopes, monkeys, and over 300 bird species, making it a great spot for birdwatching too.
