Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park

After an early breakfast, you will head out for a full-day game drive in Mikumi National Park, one of the most accessible and wildlife-rich parks in Southern Tanzania. It is often compared to the Serengeti due to its wide-open plains and distant mountain backdrops.

The day will be spent exploring the Mkata Floodplain, one of the best wildlife viewing areas in the park. You may encounter large herds of elephants, buffalo, zebras, and wildebeest grazing peacefully on the plains. Lions are often seen lounging under acacia trees or stalking prey in the tall grass, while giraffes move slowly across the land. With luck, you might spot elusive predators like leopards or hyenas.

At midday, you will enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park surrounded by the peaceful sounds of nature. After a short rest, your game drive continues into the afternoon, giving you more time to witness the dynamic behavior of wildlife as the day cools and animals become more active.

Unlike the savannah landscapes of Mikumi, Udzungwa welcomes you with lush tropical rainforests, towering trees, and cool mountain air.

Upon arrival, you’ll meet your local guide and begin a guided hike through the forest, heading toward the majestic Sanje Waterfalls. This hike typically takes 3–4 hours (round trip) and passes through beautiful, shaded trails filled with rare plant life and the calls of forest birds. Along the way, you may encounter endemic primates such as the Udzungwa red colobus and the Sanje mangabey—species found nowhere else on Earth.
