Day 2

After breakfast, begin your journey northwards to Lake Natron, one of Tanzania’s most otherworldly landscapes. The drive takes you through rugged Maasai land, passing volcanic formations and wide open savannahs. As you approach, the imposing silhouette of Ol Doinyo Lengai—the sacred “Mountain of God” and an active volcano—dominates the horizon.

Scenic Lunch: Picnic lunch on a cliffside viewpoint overlooking the valley floor below, with vast open vistas.

In the afternoon, visit the shores of the alkaline lake, famous for its vivid red waters and as a vital breeding ground for flamingos. With luck, you’ll witness thousands of these elegant birds dotting the lake’s surface. The area’s raw, untouched beauty and dramatic geological features make it unlike anywhere else in East Africa.

After descending and having a hearty breakfast back at camp, begin the journey toward Serengeti National Park, entering through one of its lesser-traveled northern gates. This route winds through dramatic landscapes and offers the chance to spot wildlife before even reaching the heart of the plains. Arrive in time for a short afternoon game drive, followed by a spectacular Serengeti sunset.
