The journey from Antananarivo to Miandrivazo takes you through a scenic and dynamic stretch of Madagascar’s central highlands. Starting in the capital, Antananarivo, the road winds through lush green hills and terraced rice fields, offering stunning views of the countryside. As you drive south, the landscape gradually transitions from the cooler highlands to the warmer, more arid lowlands.

Upon arrival in Miandrivazo, a laid-back town on the banks of the Tsiribihina River, you’ll be greeted by a more relaxed pace of life, offering a perfect starting point for exploring the nearby river or continuing your journey deeper into Madagascar’s wilderness.

Boat Trip (Tsiribihina River Descent) | Scenic Viewing

You’ll swim in natural pools, spot lemurs dancing in the trees, and sleep under a sky bursting with stars. It’s raw, it’s wild—it’s Madagascar at its purest.

The Tsiribihina River descent is a captivating journey through western Madagascar's diverse landscapes and cultures. Typically spanning 3 days and 2 nights, travelers embark from Miandrivazo, navigating the river's winding path to Belo sur Tsiribihina or Tsimafana, depending on the itinerary.

Boat Trip | Scenic Viewing

Another day spend on Tsiribihina River. The second day is often considered the most scenic and immersive part of the journey.

After breakfast at your riverside camp, the descent continues with smooth cruising along wide stretches of the Tsiribihina. Early in the day, wildlife is active—keep an eye out for sifaka and red-fronted brown lemurs, crocodiles basking on sandbanks, and colorful kingfishers or herons overhead.

Arrival In Kirindy Reserve | Night Walk

After disembarking, a new adventure begins in Kirindy Forest. As night falls, the forest comes alive—eyes glowing in the dark, mysterious sounds echoing through the trees.

This is a rare opportunity to spot nocturnal wildlife including the legendary fossa, Madagascar’s top predator, and the tiniest of lemurs darting through the branches, the elusive giant jumping rat, and various chameleons that come alive after dark.
