This particular day, the day of arrival, is not intended for strenuous activity or immediate commencement of the climb. Its primary and most crucial purpose is dedicated entirely to the vital processes of acclimatization and comprehensive preparation for the demanding physical undertaking that lies ahead. This refers to the essential physiological adjustment of your body to the lower oxygen levels present at higher altitudes, a gradual process that begins even at the elevation of Moshi. Day 2
Moshi to Mandara Hut

The trek begins with a drive from Moshi to the Marangu Gate. After registration, you will start your hike through the lush rainforest. The trail is well-maintained and relatively gentle. It takes approximately 4 to 5 hours to reach Mandara Hut. Here, you can enjoy views of the surrounding forest and possibly spot some wildlife, such as monkeys.

On this day, you will ascend through moorland vegetation towards Horombo Hut. The hike takes about 6 to 8 hours. As you gain altitude, the landscape changes dramatically; you may encounter giant lobelias and other unique flora. This day is crucial for acclimatization.
