Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, enjoy a guided city tour of Kigali, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre—a powerful tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, with impactful exhibitions, photos, and video footage that tell Rwanda’s story of tragedy and resilience.

After the tour, you will drive north to Volcanoes National Park, passing through scenic countryside and terraced hills. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and relax for the evening in preparation for the next day’s gorilla trekking adventure.

Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, head to the Kinigi park headquarters for a short briefing before beginning your unforgettable gorilla trekking experience. Accompanied by experienced guides, you’ll hike through the forest to find your assigned gorilla family. Once located, you’ll spend one magical hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat. Later, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation, with an optional visit to the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo.

Golden Monkey Trekking

Following breakfast, drive to the park again to trek the endangered golden monkeys. You will have a briefing about the right way to behave while in the presence of the golden monkeys. You will enjoy watching them play from one tree to another among others and take amazing pictures.

Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, you will go for a visit to the Ib’Iwacu Village where you will see the locals brewing local beer from yellow bananas. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Transfer to Lake Kivu for another Adventure

After breakfast, set off for Lake Kivu and enjoy a peaceful boat ride around the Virgin Islands, taking in the stunning scenery and tranquil waters.

After the boat excursion, have lunch and continue your journey to Kibuye, then proceed to Nyungwe Forest National Park, arriving in the afternoon. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge, unwind, and enjoy a delicious dinner before settling in for a restful overnight stay.

Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest

Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking, you will be taken through rules and regulations to follow while in the presence of the chimpanzees. Head into the forest in search of chimpanzees, the trek takes approximately 2-6 hours depending on the movement of the chimpanzees and where they spent their previous night.

The trek through the forest gives you a chance to see other primates including black and white colobus monkeys among other primates. You are allowed to spend only 1 hour with the chimpanzees watching them play on tree branches, feed, and groom each other.

Return to the lodge for lunch and later go for a Nyungwe Forest Canopy for a walk.
