Upon arrival in Kigali, your Wild Compass Africa guide will warmly welcome you and give you a briefing about your safari. If time allows, enjoy a Kigali city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a powerful and moving tribute to Rwanda’s history.
After the tour, depart on a scenic 2.5-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda. This breathtaking journey winds through Rwanda’s verdant hills and local villages. Upon arrival in Kinigi, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Centre, where you’ll experience Rwanda’s rich cultural heritage through traditional dance, music, and local customs.
Later, check in to your charming lodge, where you’ll unwind and prepare for the next day’s gorilla trekking experience.

After an early breakfast, head to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing before embarking on your first gorilla trekking adventure. Guided by expert trackers, you’ll hike through bamboo forests and mountainous terrain in search of a habituated gorilla family. Once found, enjoy a magical one-hour encounter observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat.
After this unforgettable experience, return to the lodge for lunch and a chance to freshen up. Before leaving Rwanda, visit the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Museum in Musanze, where you’ll gain deeper insight into the life and legacy of Dian Fossey and her groundbreaking conservation work with mountain gorillas.
Then, cross the border into Uganda and continue to Lake Mutanda, a stunning crater lake nestled on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Arrive in the evening and check in to your lakeside lodge.

Today offers another remarkable gorilla encounter, this time in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich biodiversity. After a briefing at the park headquarters, begin your trek into the misty rainforest. The trek can be challenging but incredibly rewarding, offering a second opportunity to observe a different gorilla family in a new environment.
In the afternoon, return to the resort for a relaxing boat ride on Lake Mutanda, surrounded by volcanoes and lush hills. Enjoy the peaceful scenery and reflect on your incredible gorilla trekking experiences.

You will be transferred to Kigali International Airport in time for your international flight, marking the end of your unforgettable double gorilla trekking safari.
