Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to the Hotel des Mille Collines. This hotel gained fame as a refuge for 1,268 people during the 1994 Rwandan genocide; a story depicted in the film Hotel Rwanda
The hotel has 113 rooms, including eight suites. Each room has amenities such as a bathtub, balcony, cable TV, telephone, minibar, internet access, toiletries, a work desk, wake-up service, and voicemail. Some rooms include additional amenities like a bathrobe, ceiling fan, connecting rooms, hairdryer, trouser press, and kitchenette. Non-smoking rooms are also available.
The hotel was built in 1972, opened its doors in 1974, and underwent renovations in 1987, making it one of the leading hotels in Rwanda with extensive meeting facilities.

After breakfast, your Gorilla Explorers driver-guide will pick you up to begin your safari. The day starts with a city tour of Kigali, where you'll visit the King's Palace and the Genocide Memorial. You will then head to Akagera National Park, located in the northeast of Rwanda along the border with Tanzania, arriving in the evening. Established in 1934, the park was significantly reduced in size in 1997 from over 2,500 sq km to its current 1,122 sq km. Since 2010, a partnership with African Parks has restored Akagera to its former glory. Named after the Akagera River, which flows along its eastern edge and feeds a series of lakes, including the largest, Lake Ihema, the park features forest-fringed lakes, papyrus swamps, savannah plains, and rolling highlands, making it one of the most scenic destinations in Africa.

The journey takes about 4-5 hours, offering stunning views of beautiful landscapes along the way. You’ll arrive in time for lunch, followed by a relaxing afternoon. In the evening, immerse yourself in a cultural experience at the Iby’lwachu village, where you can participate in traditional dances with the Indigenous people of Rwanda.

Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the lodge before embarking on an exciting morning drive through the breathtaking Switzerland of Rwanda Park. The park's pristine indigenous forest is perfect for gorilla trekking, offering a glimpse into the heart of natural beauty. After a briefing at the park headquarters, you'll set off on your gorilla trekking adventure accompanied by ranger guides. Once you locate the gorillas, you'll spend an unforgettable hour observing and taking pictures before returning to the starting point, hopping back into your vehicle, and heading to the lodge for an overnight stay.

With cameras packed with memories and hearts brimming with excitement, continue the journey to Bwindi National Park for another thrilling Gorilla Trekking experience.

After breakfast, you'll gear up for your second gorilla trekking adventure, this time meeting a different gorilla family in Uganda. Each family is unique, offering its own special chances to get close to these incredible creatures and admire their beauty. As on Day 5, you'll start with a briefing before heading into the National Park with the rangers to locate the gorillas. Once found, you'll have another hour to spend with them.

Early in the Morning, we will transfer you back to Kigali

After breakfast, you'll get ready for the transfer back to Kigali for either your outbound journey or hotel drop-off. With a camera full of memories and a heart full of experiences, we'll leave Uganda for Kigali, but the spirit of Rwanda and Uganda's wilderness will stay with you forever.
