Arusha to Miriakamba Hut – Wildlife Safari Trek

Start your Mount Meru hike from Arusha, a 45-minute drive to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. After registration, embark on a walking safari escorted by an armed ranger due to abundant wildlife like elephants, giraffes, zebras, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. Trek through lush montane forest, passing the iconic Fig Tree Arch for lunch. By mid-afternoon, arrive at Miriakamba Hut (2,514m), nestled in a grassy glade with breathtaking Kilimanjaro views. Enjoy a hot dinner under the stars.

Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut – Scenic Crater Views

Begin with a steep climb from Miriakamba Hut through lush forest to Elephant Ridge, offering panoramic Meru Crater and Ash Cone views. The trail transitions to giant heather and moorland, showcasing Tanzania’s alpine landscapes. Reach Saddle Hut (3,570m) by lunchtime. In the afternoon, opt for a 1-2 hour acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for stunning sunset views of Kilimanjaro and the crater. Return to Saddle Hut for dinner and rest.

Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak Summit to Miriakamba Hut

Start at 1:30 AM for the Mount Meru summit push. Climb steeply to Rhino Point (3,800m), then navigate a thrilling narrow ridge to Cobra Point (4,350m). Reach Socialist Peak (4,566m) by sunrise, marveling at Kilimanjaro sunrise views, the Meru Crater, and the Rift Valley. Descend back to Saddle Hut for brunch, then continue to Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight. Note: In icy or windy conditions, the ridge beyond Rhino Point may be impassable.

Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate to Arusha – Descent and Farewell

After breakfast, descend quickly through open grassland and mixed forest, with chances to spot wildlife like buffalo and warthogs. Arrive at Momella Gate by late morning, where your driver awaits to transfer you back to Arusha or Moshi. Celebrate your Mount Meru climb with a well-deserved rest or extend your Tanzania adventure with a safari or Zanzibar holiday.
