Day 1
Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania’s most distinctive wildlife destinations, famous for its enormous elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, seasonal wetlands, and dramatic savannah landscapes.
The park takes its name from the Tarangire River, which runs through it and becomes particularly important during the dry season.
Tarangire is particularly renowned for its elephants. Large family groups can often be seen moving through the woodland, crossing open plains, or gathering around water. Beyond elephants, Tarangire supports a wide variety of wildlife, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, impalas, gazelles, warthogs and several species of antelope. During the dry season, the concentration of herbivores around remaining water and grazing areas can create opportunities for predators as well.
