Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Today you’ll go on a game drive in the northern part of the park on the Kasenyi Track in search of lions, elephants, and solitary buffaloes. This is the best time to spot the cats in action due to the large population of Uganda kobs. We have an excellent chance to view almost every animal here at very close range. Return to the lodge for breakfast before heading out for a launch trip along the Kazinga Channel. This gives you the opportunity to view wildlife up close: hippos huff and spray just a few feet away from the boat, and buffalo linger in the shallows. The shores of the channel are also home to a variety of birds, including pink-backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle-billed storks, and many others.

Have an early morning breakfast, then proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking in Bwindi. The rangers will then accompany you into the thick rainforest to begin your search for the gentle giants. Trekkers are advised to carry raincoats and boots, as the weather is often unpredictable. Porters are available to help carry luggage for a small extra cost.

It is difficult to predict how long gorilla tracking will take, as it depends on the location of the families, and some are far from the park headquarters. However, it typically takes two to seven hours to encounter them, and the rangers will guide you throughout. Trackers are advised to be physically fit before attempting the trek. After your trek, return to the lodge and have a late lunch (or opt for a packed lunch).
