Early in the morning after breakfast, you will descend onto the crater floor with picnic lunches in hand for full day of game driving. In the afternoon, depart for Arusha. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.
The Ngorongoro Crater is the main feature of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and is the largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera in the world. It was formed when a large volcano erupted and collapsed on itself between two and three million years ago. The crater is 610 metres (2,000 feet) deep, and the crater floor covers 260 square kilometres (100 square miles). The original volcano is estimated to have been between 4,500 and 5,800 metres (14,800–19,000 feet) high. Today, the crater floor sits 1,800 metres (5,900 feet) above sea level. In February 2013, the site was recognized as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa.
