Nairobi to Lake Naivasha – (Boat safari, Nature Walk & Elsamere Experience)

Depart Nairobi in the morning and travel through the scenic Great Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha.

Check in at Elsamere Lodge, a charming boutique retreat and former home of conservationist Joy Adamson, best known for raising and releasing the lioness Elsa—a story famously told in the book and film Born Free. Set on the lakeshore, the lodge is rich in history and surrounded by wildlife.

After lunch, enjoy a boat safari on Lake Naivasha, spotting hippos and diverse birdlife. Disembark at Crescent Island for a guided walking safari among giraffes, zebras, and antelope—offering a rare and peaceful encounter with wildlife on foot.

Back at Elsamere, visit the Elsa Conservation Trust Museum to learn about Kenya’s early conservation efforts. Your stay directly supports local conservation and education projects. Enjoy tea by the lake before a relaxing evening.

Enjoy high tea on the lawn overlooking the lake, followed by a peaceful evening surrounded by nature.

After breakfast, depart Lake Naivasha for the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve. Journey through the Rift Valley and the Maasai heartlands, arriving in time for lunch at Basecamp Adventure, an award-winning eco-camp nestled on the banks of the Talek River.

Full-Day Masai Mara Safari & Cultural Immersion

Begin with a sunrise game drive, tracking lions, elephants, and other wildlife at their most active. Guests can choose a full-day game drive with picnic lunch boxes to explore deeper into the reserve, or split the experience into morning and afternoon game drives with a break at camp.

Between safaris, enjoy enriching activities at Basecamp Adventure, including guided walks to a nearby Maasai village, visits to the Enjoolata Centre for conservation and culture, and the Young Explorers Club—ideal for families.

In the evening, head out on a second game drive to catch the Mara’s golden hour and returning wildlife. Later, unwind with dinner and storytelling by the fire.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at camp, soaking in the peaceful morning atmosphere of the Masai Mara. After check-out, begin your scenic drive back to Nairobi.

Along the way, stop at a local Maasai village for a cultural visit. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with community members, learn about Maasai traditions, and support local artisans through the purchase of handmade crafts.

Arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon.
Optional: Transfer to your hotel or the airport, or extend your holiday with a beach retreat in Diani, Watamu, or Zanzibar.
