Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a representative from Acatree Tours and Safaris. You’ll then be transferred to your hotel in Arusha, a vibrant city nestled at the foot of Mount Meru. Take this day to relax and recover from your journey, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and preparing for the exciting days ahead. Depending on your arrival time, you may choose to explore the city, visit local markets, or enjoy a cultural tour (optional for an extra cost). In the evening, unwind at your lodge as you are briefed about your upcoming safari. Overnight in Arusha.

Day 2

On Day 2, you will depart early from your hotel in Arusha and drive to Marangu Gate, the starting point of the Marangu Route on Mount Kilimanjaro. The scenic journey takes approximately 2 to 3 hours through the foothills of Kilimanjaro and surrounding villages. Upon arrival at Marangu Gate, you will complete registration formalities and meet your experienced guides and porters. After a final briefing and equipment check, you’ll begin your exciting trek through lush rainforest, ascending to Mandara Hut at about 2,700 meters. The hike typically takes 4 to 5 hours, with opportunities to enjoy the rich flora and fauna of the forest. Upon arrival at Mandara Hut, you’ll rest and enjoy your first night on the mountain, preparing for the days ahead. Optional equipment rental or personal porter services are available for an extra cost.

Day 3

On Day 3, after breakfast at Mandara Hut, you will continue your ascent on the Marangu Route, trekking through beautiful moorland and alpine landscapes. The hike to Horombo Hut (3,720 meters) usually takes 6 to 8 hours, crossing open plains dotted with giant lobelias and groundsels. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. This day is key for acclimatization, helping your body adjust to the increasing altitude. Upon arrival at Horombo Hut, relax and rest in preparation for the next challenging stages of the climb.

Day 4

On Day 4, after breakfast, you will begin your ascent from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut at 4,703 meters. This part of the climb takes about 6 to 7 hours and passes through the stark, beautiful alpine desert. The air becomes thinner, and the terrain more rugged as you prepare for the challenging summit attempt ahead. Take your time to acclimatize and stay hydrated. Upon arrival at Kibo Hut, you’ll rest early to conserve energy for the midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak.

Day 5
Summit Day – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak & Back to Horombo

Day 5 is the most challenging and rewarding day of your climb. You will start your ascent around midnight from Kibo Hut, trekking through the cold and darkness toward Uhuru Peak (5,895m) — the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and Africa. The climb is steep and demanding, but you’ll be rewarded with spectacular sunrise views and a sense of achievement like no other. After celebrating at the summit, you’ll descend back down to Horombo Hut for rest and recovery. This day usually takes between 10 to 14 hours, so good physical preparation and determination are key. Optional porter support or oxygen kits can be arranged for an extra cost.

Day 6

On Day 6, after a well-deserved rest and breakfast at Horombo Hut, you will begin your final descent down the mountain. The trail takes you back through the moorland and lush rainforest, retracing your steps to Marangu Gate. This final hike takes approximately 6 to 7 hours. Upon arrival at the gate, you’ll receive your official Kilimanjaro climbing certificate to celebrate your achievement. After signing out, you’ll be transferred back to Arusha or Moshi for a hot shower, relaxation, and celebration. Optional day-use room or massage services can be arranged at your lodge for an extra cost.

Enjoy a relaxing morning at your hotel in Arusha, with time to recover and take in the achievement of conquering Africa’s highest peak. Depending on your flight schedule, you may choose to explore the town, visit a local market, or enjoy a cultural experience (optional for an extra cost). Later, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure or onward travel. We hope you leave with unforgettable memories and a great sense of accomplishment!
