Day 1

Arusha to Tarangire

Depart early from Arusha and drive approximately two hours (120 km) to Tarangire National Park. This park is known for its iconic baobab trees and large elephant herds, especially during the dry season when wildlife gathers around the Tarangire River. Expect to see zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, lions, and abundant birdlife. After a full-day game drive and picnic lunch in the park, proceed to Karatu, located near the Ngorongoro Highlands. Arrive at Marera Valley Lodge in the late afternoon for check-in, dinner, and overnight. The lodge offers a peaceful garden setting, warm hospitality, and scenic views of the surrounding farmland.

Enjoy an early breakfast and depart with a packed lunch to Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s most breathtaking wildlife locations. Descend 600 meters into the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, home to diverse habitats and a remarkable density of wildlife including lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, and the rare black rhino. You’ll stop for a picnic lunch near the Hippo Pool while taking in views of the crater floor. In the late afternoon, ascend the crater wall and return to Karatu. Arrive back at Marera Valley Lodge for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast and check-out, take a short drive to Lake Manyara National Park. The park offers a rich mix of landscapes including forest, acacia woodland, and the lake itself. Wildlife highlights include tree-climbing lions, elephants, baboons, hippos, and numerous bird species such as flamingos and pelicans. The morning game drive offers a final chance to enjoy Tanzania’s wildlife. After lunch, begin the return journey to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon. This marks the end of your 3-day northern circuit safari experience.
