After breakfast, your Ellion Tours safari guide will collect you from your accommodation and set off for Tarangire National Park, approximately a two-and-a-half-hour drive along well-maintained tarmac roads. The park takes its name from the Tarangire River, which serves as the lifeline for wildlife during the dry season.
Tarangire is famous for its large elephant herds gathering along the riverbanks, offering incredible opportunities to observe these gentle giants up close. You may also spot giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests, while predators like lions and leopards often roam nearby. The park boasts the highest diversity of bird species in Tanzania, delighting birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts alike. This morning, you will head to Lake Manyara National Park—your final stop on this incredible safari journey! Although compact in size, Lake Manyara packs a remarkable diversity of landscapes and wildlife. Nestled about 120 km west of Arusha, the park is framed dramatically by the Great Rift Valley escarpment towering over its western edge.
At the heart of the park lies Lake Manyara itself, a shallow, seasonal salt lake that attracts thousands of wading birds, including vibrant flocks of flamingos and over 500 other bird species. The park’s lush evergreen forests are home to playful baboons and majestic elephants, while the famous tree-climbing lions offer a truly unique sight rarely seen elsewhere in Africa.
