Arrival Marangu Gate to Mandara hut

After pickup from the airport or your hotel, depart for Marangu Gate, the starting point of your Kilimanjaro adventure. The drive takes approximately 1.5–2 hours, passing through the beautiful countryside and local villages on the way.

Upon arrival at Marangu Gate, your guide will complete the necessary park registration and permit formalities while the crew prepares for the trek. Once ready, begin your hike through the lush montane rainforest, following a scenic and gradually ascending trail.

Along the way, enjoy the peaceful forest environment, with opportunities to see colorful birds, unique vegetation, and occasional wildlife. Continue at a comfortable pace toward Mandara Hut, located at approximately 2,720 meters (8,923 ft).

Upon arrival, settle into your mountain hut, enjoy dinner, and rest as you prepare for the next stage of your Kilimanjaro journey.

Mandara Hut To Horombo Hut

After breakfast, leave Mandara Hut and continue your ascent toward Horombo Hut. The trail gradually leaves the rainforest behind and enters the beautiful heath and moorland zone, where the vegetation becomes more open and the mountain scenery more dramatic.

As you climb, enjoy spectacular views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks, two of Kilimanjaro’s most impressive volcanic cones. The trail passes through rolling moorland and unique high-altitude vegetation, including giant lobelias and groundsels.

After several hours of trekking, arrive at Horombo Hut (3,720 m / 12,205 ft). Settle in, enjoy dinner, and rest while your body continues to acclimatize to the increasing altitude.

Horombo Hut To Kibo Hut

After breakfast, continue your journey toward Kibo Hut, crossing the vast and spectacular Saddle, the high-altitude desert between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks.

The landscape becomes increasingly barren as you gain altitude, with very little vegetation. Maintain a slow and steady pace while enjoying the magnificent views of Kibo Peak ahead and Mawenzi Peak behind you.

After approximately 6–8 hours of trekking, reach Kibo Hut (4,703 m / 15,430 ft). Enjoy an early dinner and prepare for the most challenging and rewarding part of your adventure - the midnight summit attempt.

Rest as much as possible before beginning your ascent to Uhuru Peak in the early hours of the following morning.

Summit – Kibo Hut To Uhuru Peak and back To Horombo Hut

Wake around midnight and begin your summit attempt under the stars. The climb starts with a steep ascent over rocky terrain and loose scree toward Gilman’s Point (5,681 m / 18,638 ft) on the crater rim. Continue along the crater rim toward Stella Point (5,739 m / 18,829 ft), where you may be rewarded with a spectacular sunrise over the African landscape.

From Stella Point, continue for approximately one hour toward Uhuru Peak (5,895 m / 19,341 ft), the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement, take photographs, and enjoy the breathtaking views from the Roof of Africa.

After spending a short time at the summit, begin your descent to Kibo Hut for a well-earned rest and lunch. Continue descending through the alpine desert and moorland to Horombo Hut, where you’ll enjoy dinner and spend the night.

Horombo Hut To Marangu Gate

After breakfast, begin your final descent from Horombo Hut toward Marangu Gate. The trail takes you through the beautiful heath and moorland before re-entering the lush montane rainforest.

Enjoy the changing scenery as you gradually descend to lower elevations. Upon reaching Marangu Gate, complete the necessary park formalities and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate as a lasting reminder of your achievement.

After saying farewell to your mountain crew, your vehicle will transfer you from Marangu Gate to the airport or your hotel, depending on your onward travel arrangements.
