Day 1

After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll drive to Marangu Gate, passing through Chagga villages and banana plantations. At the gate, your team will handle registration and park formalities while you prepare for the trek.
The trail begins in lush rainforest, where you may spot blue monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and a variety of tropical birds. The path is well-defined, gradually ascending through dense vegetation until you reach Mandara Hut, your first overnight stop. In the afternoon, you can take a short acclimatization hike to Maundi Crater for panoramic views of Kenya’s Amboseli plains

Day 2

Today you leave the rainforest and enter the heath and moorland zone, where giant heathers, lobelias, and other alpine plants dominate the landscape. The trail offers sweeping views of Mawenzi Peak and, on clear days, your first glimpse of Kibo Peak—the final destination.
You’ll arrive at Horombo Hut in the late afternoon, where you can rest, enjoy a warm meal, and prepare for the high-altitude challenges ahead. This is a popular camp where trekkers on both the 5- and 6-day itineraries cross paths.

Day 3

The vegetation thins dramatically today as you enter the stark and beautiful alpine desert. The trail passes the Last Water Point before crossing the saddle—a broad, arid plain between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The air grows thinner and drier, and the temperature drops.
You’ll arrive at Kibo Hut in the early afternoon. Here, you’ll have an early dinner and rest, as your summit attempt begins around midnight. Your guide will brief you on the climb ahead, ensuring you’re mentally and physically prepared for the final push.

Day 4

Summit Day begins in darkness between 11:00 pm and midnight. The climb to Gillman’s Point (5,685 m) is steep, with switchbacks over loose volcanic scree. From here, you follow the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
As the sun rises, you’ll witness breathtaking views over the glaciers, the vast African plains, and distant mountain ranges. After a short celebration and photos, you’ll begin your descent to Kibo Hut for a rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut for the night.

Your final trek descends through moorland and lush rainforest, retracing your steps back to Marangu Gate. Here, you’ll receive your summit certificate from Kilimanjaro National Park gold for Uhuru Peak, green for Gillman’s Point.
After farewells to your mountain crew, you’ll be transferred to your hotel for a hot shower, celebratory dinner, and well-earned rest.
