Arusha - Tarangire National Park

Your guide will collect you from your accommodations after breakfast and then drive you to Tarangire National Park. The drive takes approximately two and a half hours on good tarmac roads. The park is named after the Tarangire River, also called the “river of warthogs,” which serves as the only source of water for wildlife in the region during the dry season. Tarangire is well known for its elephant families, which can often be seen congregating by the river. You may also spot giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests, followed closely by predators such as lions and leopards. The park is home to more breeding bird species than anywhere else in the world. Huge and ancient baobab trees are scattered throughout, some said to be over a thousand years old. Lunch will be at a picnic site inside the park, and after your game drive, you will continue to your accommodations in Mto wa Mbu.

Tarangire National Park - Ngorongoro Crater - Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will drive up into the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. When you first see Ngorongoro Crater, it appears like a forgotten world. Concealed by steep volcanic walls is a pristine wilderness, including sweeping savannahs, pockets of acacia woodland, and glistening lakes and swamps. The crater was formed when a large volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago, covering an area of 260 km². It is famous both for its geological features and as a natural reserve home to some of the densest large mammal populations in Africa. After descending into the crater, you will encounter large numbers of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and more than 500 bird species. The crater also provides an excellent chance of seeing the endangered black rhino. Afterward, you will continue through Ngorongoro Conservation Area and enter the Serengeti from the south.

Serengeti National Park - Karatu

Serengeti National Park - Karatu

The Serengeti is truly spectacular, famous for its vast open grasslands that allow excellent wildlife sightings. Its climate and vegetation have remained largely untouched for millions of years. While it boasts abundant wildlife, the Serengeti is perhaps best known for the annual Great Migration, during which vast numbers of wildebeest, accompanied by zebras and antelopes, move in search of fresh grazing. The migration can be observed at any time of year if you know where to look. In addition to the iconic landscapes, you have a good chance of encountering predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. It is a truly life-changing experience. In the afternoon, you will begin your journey back to Karatu, enjoying more wonder along the way.

Karatu - Lake Manyara National Park - Arusha

Karatu - Lake Manyara National Park - Arusha

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a small but diverse park located 120 km west of Arusha. Everything here is on a different scale: it is both compact, being one of the narrowest parks in Africa, and epic, with the Great Rift Escarpment towering over Lake Manyara’s western boundary. The park’s namesake is a shallow salt lake that floods and dries with the seasons, providing a home for thousands of wading birds, including flamingos and over 500 other bird species. You may also see baboons and elephants in the park’s thick evergreen forest, and you should be sure to watch for the tree-climbing lions that have become famous throughout Africa.

After a picnic lunch in the park and additional game driving, you will say farewell to your guide and be dropped off at the location of your choosing, such as Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport, or Arusha Airport. We hope you have enjoyed your adventure with Mnava Tours!
