Tarangire is one of Africa’s hidden treasures, a must-visit for anyone who cherishes wilderness and solitude. Its landscapes are strikingly diverse, characterized by towering ancient baobab trees and scattered termite mounds. During the dry season, the sun scorches the earth, turning it a dusty red, while the rainy season transforms the park into a sea of lush, green grasses.

Renowned for its large elephant population, Tarangire is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, including zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, waterbuck, baboons, dwarf mongoose, impala, buffalo, various antelope species, and the rare fringe-eared oryx. Predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards also roam the area. After an exhilarating full-day game drive, you’ll head to The Retreat at Ngorongoro for your overnight.

Today, you’ll be rewarded with a full-day game drive in the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. Often described as Africa’s Eden, the Crater is one of the few places on Earth where humans and wildlife continue to coexist in harmony.

Descending 610 meters into the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, you’ll enter a natural sanctuary teeming with life. Thanks to the Crater’s permanent water sources, wildlife is abundant year-round, making it one of the best places in Africa for game viewing. Keep your eyes peeled for the endangered black rhino, as well as wildebeest, buffalo, zebra, eland, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles, and the impressive giant tusker elephants. Predators are also well represented with lions, leopards, cheetahs, and a host of scavengers like spotted hyenas, jackals, and occasionally wild dogs.
