Tarangire is one of Africa’s hidden treasures, a must-visit for anyone who cherishes wilderness and solitude. Its landscapes are strikingly diverse, characterized by towering ancient baobab trees and scattered termite mounds. During the dry season, the sun scorches the earth, turning it a dusty red, while the rainy season transforms the park into a sea of lush, green grasses.
Renowned for its large elephant population, Tarangire is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, including zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, waterbuck, baboons, dwarf mongoose, impala, buffalo, various antelope species, and the rare fringe-eared oryx. Predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards also roam the area. After an exhilarating full-day game drive, you’ll head to The Retreat at Ngorongoro for your overnight.

Today, you’ll travel to the world-famous Serengeti National Park, one of Africa’s top wildlife destinations. As you drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the vast, untamed landscape unfolds, with acacia-dotted plains alive with diverse birds and wildlife, offering a glimpse of Tanzania’s northern circuit. Along the way, visit a Maasai village to meet elders, warriors, and women, learning about their vibrant traditions. In the Serengeti, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, enjoy a game drive en route and a full-day safari, witnessing the legendary ecosystem and, depending on the season, the Great Wildebeest Migration.

Day 5
Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

Today, you’ll be rewarded with a full-day game drive in the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. Often described as Africa’s Eden, the Crater is one of the few places on Earth where humans and wildlife continue to coexist in harmony.
Descending 610 meters into the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, you’ll enter a natural sanctuary teeming with life. Thanks to the Crater’s permanent water sources, wildlife is abundant year-round, making it one of the best places in Africa for game viewing. Keep your eyes peeled for the endangered black rhino, as well as wildebeest, buffalo, zebra, eland, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles, and the impressive giant tusker elephants. Predators are also well represented with lions, leopards, cheetahs, and a host of scavengers like spotted hyenas, jackals, and occasionally wild dogs.

Today, enjoy a full-day game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The park features diverse landscapes from grassy floodplains and acacia woodlands to dense fig and mahogany forests, set against volcanic peaks, which Ernest Hemingway called “the loveliest I had seen in Africa.” Wildlife abounds, including buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, giraffes, mongoose, dik-dik, elephants, and the famous tree-climbing lions. Over 400 bird species thrive here, with flamingos, pelicans, and storks lining the lake. After a rewarding day, return to Arusha for your final evening in Tanzania.
