Day 1

4:00 AM – Pickup from your hotel in Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
It’s an early start, as the drive to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze District takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.
Upon arriving at the Kinigi National Park Headquarters, you will check in with park authorities, present your passport and trekking permit, and enjoy a hot cup of Rwandan coffee or tea while mingling with other trekkers.

Rangers will give a pre-trek briefing, explaining gorilla behavior, safety protocols, and trekking etiquette. Transfer by vehicle to the specific trailhead, depending on your assigned group. Begin the trek through lush bamboo forests, hilly terrain, and misty jungle paths of the Virunga Mountains. Once your group locates the gorilla family, you will have a magical 1-hour experience observing them up close. Watch silverbacks beat their chests or nap under the trees, see juveniles play and climb, witness mothers care for their infants.
