Day 1

Transfer from Zanzibar to Southern Serengeti (Ndutu)

Transfer from Zanzibar to Southern Serengeti (Ndutu)

After arriving at Arusha Airport from Zanzibar, transfer to Ndutu for a full-day game drive. You will explore the range of different habitats found here, including swamps, woodlands and savanna. With luck, you will see vast herds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope, sometimes stretching to the horizon. The sound of wildebeest gently mooing is hauntingly beautiful.

During a short period, normally in February, many female wildebeest give birth to their young, with more than half a million calves born in a remarkable act of synchronised birthing. The grass provides little cover, and the newborns are easy prey for a variety of predators, including cheetahs, lions, hyenas and leopards. Wildebeest calves can run within minutes of birth and, within three days, are usually strong enough to keep up with the herd.

After a full day of exploration, you will return to your tented camp in time for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2

Game Drive in Ngorongoro Crater and Transfer to Arusha

Game Drive in Ngorongoro Crater and Transfer to Arusha

After breakfast, you will head out for an en route game drive through the Serengeti. With luck, you may spot all of the Big Five across the endless plains on the way to the Ngorongoro Crater. This UNESCO World Heritage Site formed millions of years ago after the massive explosion of a volcano once higher than Mt Kilimanjaro. It is 610m (2,000ft) deep and covers roughly 304km² (117mi²). Due to its dense animal population of approximately 25,000 ungulates, the crater offers some of the best game viewing. You will arrive at the crater rim before lunch. With the spectacular landscape stretching out before you stored in both memory and memory cards, you will descend the bumpy winding track that leads to the crater floor. Very quickly, you may see wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, elephant and, if fortunate, the black rhino among the grass.

After lunch and a full afternoon inside the crater, you will head to Arusha Airport for your flight back to Zanzibar, where your safari will come to an end.
