Journey to Serengeti

Journey to Serengeti

This morning after breakfast at Eileen’s Trees Inn, we begin our journey to the world-famous Serengeti National Park. The drive takes us through the Ngorongoro Highlands, with a stop at one of the viewpoints to look down into the Ngorongoro Crater. From there, the landscape slowly opens into the wide plains of the Serengeti—the kind of scenery you’ve always imagined when thinking of Africa.

As we enter the park, we’ll take our time with a game drive, keeping an eye out for the big cats the Serengeti is known for—lions, cheetahs, and maybe even a leopard resting in a tree. Of course, the plains are also full of wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, elephants, and many more. Every corner of the Serengeti has a surprise waiting.

In the late afternoon, we make our way to Serengeti Classic Camp, where you’ll spend the night in the heart of the wilderness. Here, you can enjoy dinner under the stars and fall asleep to the distant calls of the wild.

The Northern Serengeti journey

The Northern Serengeti journey

After breakfast at Serengeti Classic Camp, we pack up and begin our journey north through the Serengeti. The drive itself is a long game drive, as we slowly make our way from the central plains toward the northern region, close to the Mara River. Along the way, we’ll keep stopping whenever there’s wildlife—maybe lions along the kopjes, herds of elephants, or cheetahs out on the open grasslands.

As we get further north, the landscape changes slightly—rolling hills, scattered woodlands, and the famous Mara River, where during the migration season, wildebeest and zebras gather in their thousands. Even outside of the migration, this area is rich with wildlife, and sightings are often very rewarding.

By late afternoon, we’ll arrive at Kontiki Kogatende Camp, your home in the northern Serengeti. After settling in, you can relax with the sounds of the river and the bush around you, before enjoying dinner and an overnight stay under the stars.

After breakfast at Kontiki Kogatende Camp, we begin the journey back south toward the central Serengeti. The whole day is a game drive, giving us plenty of chances to see wildlife along the way. Early in the morning, we’ll look for predators still active before the heat of the day—lions on the move, cheetahs scanning for prey, or even leopards resting in the trees.

As we drive south, the scenery shifts back to the open plains and rocky outcrops of central Serengeti. This area is always full of life, with large herds of wildebeest and zebras, giraffes browsing on acacias, and elephants moving slowly across the grasslands.

By late afternoon, we return to Serengeti Classic Camp, where you’ll enjoy dinner and spend another night in the heart of the Serengeti wilderness.

We then head east toward the Ngorongoro Highlands, passing through wide open plains where Maasai herders can often be seen with their cattle. As we approach Ngorongoro, the air becomes cooler and the scenery greener, with beautiful views over the highlands.
