Hotel Pickup – Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut

After pickup from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, drive to Marangu Gate (1,860m) for registration. Trek through dense rainforest alive with monkeys and birds to Mandara Hut (2,700m). This gentle first day is perfect for warming up and acclimatizing. Hiking time: 4–5 hours.

Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut

Leaving the forest, the trail ascends steadily through moorland with unique flora like giant lobelias and groundsels. Reach Horombo Hut (3,720m), located in a scenic alpine desert area, in 5–6 hours. This camp provides essential acclimatization before higher altitude climbs.

Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut

Trek across the alpine desert from Horombo to Kibo Hut (4,700m), the base for the summit push. The landscape is stark and dramatic, with views of glaciers and rocky slopes. The hike takes 5–6 hours, and the afternoon is spent resting and preparing for the midnight ascent.

Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut

Begin the climb at midnight through cold, steep slopes toward Stella Point (5,739m), then along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). After celebrating the sunrise and taking photos, descend via the same route to Horombo Hut (3,720m) for overnight rest. Trekking time: 12–14 hours.

Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Hotel Drop-off

On the final day, you begin your descent from Horombo Hut, retracing the trail through the scenic alpine moorland, passing giant lobelias and groundsels, before entering the lush, green rainforest once again. The walk gradually eases as you descend through towering trees, streams, and abundant wildlife, giving your legs a gentler finish after the challenging summit day. After approximately 4–5 hours of trekking, you arrive at Marangu Gate (1,860m), where you are officially awarded your summit certificate to celebrate your achievement. From the gate, a vehicle will transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, offering time to rest, reflect on your adventure, and share stories of your incredible Kilimanjaro journey.
