Day 1

Arrive in to Addis Ababa Bole airport where you will be met by njs tour and travel. Today you will explore some of the capital’s highlights, stopping off at the National Museum to view the 3.6 million year old remains of “Lucy”, whose skeleton was discovered in 1974 and the Merkato - the largest market in East Africa. Also visit the church of the Holy Trinity. Will end the day with a drive to the top of Mount Entoto, which rises to an altitude of 10,500 feet and offers a panoramic view of the metropolis. And in the evening try your first taste of Ethiopia’s national dish – injera.

Day 2

Addis Ababa Jinka – Turmi

Addis Ababa Jinka – Turmi

After breakfast, take a flight to Jinka. From there, head south to the town of Turmi via Dimeka and Key Afer, settlements of the Hamer people. On Tuesdays and Saturdays, Dimeka hosts one of the most colorful markets in the area, attracting many communities including the Hamer, Banna, and Karo. Continue to Turmi in the afternoon and visit a Hamer village. The Hamer are pastoralists with deep-rooted traditions—women adorn themselves with copper bracelets and scarification patterns treated with ash and charcoal. If the opportunity arises, witness the extraordinary bull-jumping ceremony, a celebrated initiation rite marking the passage to adulthood.

Day 3

Turmi – Karo Village – Omorate

Turmi – Karo Village – Omorate

Using Turmi as a base, explore the surrounding region and meet some of the diverse communities who share the Omo Valley yet maintain their own unique traditions. The Karo are traditionally pastoralists, renowned for their elaborate body painting and flamboyant hairstyles. Men often wear hair buns, paint their bodies with chalk, and use colorful facemasks, while women dye their hair with ochre. Continue to the town of Omorate, where you will cross the Omo River by local boat to visit the Dassanech community. If available, you may also witness the extraordinary bull-jumping ceremony, a celebrated initiation rite marking the transition to adulthood.

Day 4

Turmi – Jinka

Turmi – Jinka

Depart Turmi and travel northwest via Dimeka and Key Afer. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Dimeka hosts lively market days, drawing many local communities from across the valley. Continue the journey to Jinka. In the afternoon, visit the Omo Valley Cultural Museum, which offers excellent insight into the diverse peoples of the region. Alternatively, take a hike into the surrounding hills to visit an Ari village and learn about their way of life.

Today, drive through Mago National Park to visit the semi-nomadic Mursi communities, known for their distinctive lip plates worn by women. Explore their villages and learn about their fascinating traditions and way of life.

After lunch, fly back to Addis Ababa. In the evening, enjoy optional shopping or attend a folkloric dinner featuring a variety of Ethiopian national dishes and traditional dances from different communities. Experience a traditional coffee ceremony before being transferred to the airport according to your departure schedule.
