Day 2

Shoebill Excursion at Mabamba – Transfer to Mbarara

After an early breakfast, head out for a morning excursion to Mabamba Wetland, one of the best birding sites in Uganda and home to the elusive Shoebill stork. You will take a canoe ride through the swamp channels, guided by local experts, in search of this prehistoric-looking bird and other wetland species. Later, set off on a scenic drive southwest towards Mbarara, passing through lush countryside, traditional homesteads, and rolling hills. Arrive in Mbarara for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, continue the journey through the scenic highlands of southwestern Uganda, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa,” with beautiful terraced hillsides and sweeping landscapes. Arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
The afternoon is dedicated to the unforgettable Gorilla trekking experience. Led by expert rangers and guides, you will venture deep into the misty rain forest in search of a habituated gorilla family. Once found, spend a magical hour observing them as they feed, play, and interact in their natural habitat a truly once-in a lifetime wildlife encounter.

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing by the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers before setting off on your gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The trek may take a few hours or more depending on the gorillas’ movement, but the reward is truly unforgettable spending an awe-inspiring hour observing a gorilla family in their natural habitat.

After this once in a lifetime experience, drive to the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi, a tranquil lake dotted with numerous islands and surrounded by rolling green hills. The evening is free to relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

Return to entebbe via The equator

After breakfast at Lake Bunyonyi, begin the journey back to Entebbe, driving through the picturesque Kigezi highlands and Ankole cattle corridor. En route, stop at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe, where you can take memorable photos, enjoy a simple demonstration of the earth’s magnetic balance, and shop for unique crafts and souvenirs. Continue the drive to Entebbe to depart.
