Day 1

Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins at Marangu Gate, sitting at 1,840 meters. After registration, you start your trek through a lush rainforest alive with colobus monkeys, exotic birds, and rich vegetation. The air is humid and fresh, and the trail gradually climbs for about 5 hours until you reach Mandara Hut at 2,700 meters. In the evening, you can explore the nearby Maundi Crater for beautiful views before resting for the night.

Day 2
Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
The trail today leads you out of the dense forest and into moorland terrain, where the landscape changes to heathers, volcanic rocks, and open skies. The trek takes around 6 hours, gradually ascending to Horombo Hut at 3,720 meters. From here, both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks become visible, making it an ideal place to relax and take in the stunning mountain scenery.

Your journey continues as you move into the alpine desert zone. The path becomes steeper, and the vegetation fades into a rocky and barren environment. It’s a steady 6-hour trek across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, filled with dramatic views of the mountain’s volcanic features. By afternoon, you arrive at Kibo Hut at 4,700 meters, where you rest early in preparation for your midnight summit push.

Day 4

This is the most challenging yet rewarding day of the trek. You set off around midnight under the starry skies, climbing slowly on a zig-zag path through icy slopes. After 6 to 7 hours of steady effort, you reach Gilman’s Point at 5,685 meters, before continuing along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters. Standing at the summit, you witness an unforgettable sunrise above the clouds. After photos and celebration, you descend to Kibo Hut for rest and then continue down to Horombo Hut at 3,720 meters for the night.

Day 5

On the final day, you trek back through the moorland and rainforest, enjoying fresh air and the greenery after days in higher altitudes. The descent takes about 6 hours before reaching Marangu Gate. Here, you receive your official summit certificate before returning to Moshi or Arusha with memories of conquering Africa’s tallest mountain.
