Your journey begins upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). You will be greeted by our representative from Herbivore African Expeditions safari company who will assist you and provide a transfer to your lodge in Arusha. This day is for you to unwind, recover from your travels, and prepare for the adventure ahead.
Accommodation: Arusha Planet Lodge. A modern and comfortable lodge located in a peaceful area of Arusha. It offers a serene environment with beautiful gardens, a swimming pool, spacious rooms, and friendly service, making it an ideal place to relax before your safari begins.

Day 2
Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After an early breakfast, you'll meet your guide and drive to Tarangire National Park. Known for its stunning savannah landscape dotted with ancient baobab trees and the life-sustaining Tarangire River, the park is famous for its massive herds of elephants. You can expect to see hundreds of elephants, along with lions, leopards (often resting in trees), giraffes, buffalo, and a prolific number of birds.
Accommodation: Sangaiwe Tented Lodge. Perched on a hill overlooking the park and the Sangaiwe plains, this lodge offers breathtaking panoramic views. Today, you leave the traditional safari circuit and head northeast towards the remote and dramatic landscape surrounding Lake Natron. The journey itself is an adventure, passing through Maasai land and offering views of the Rift Valley escarpment and the iconic volcano, Ol Doinyo Lengai ("Mountain of God" in Maasai). The terrain becomes more arid and volcanic, a stark and beautiful contrast to the parks you've visited.
Accommodation: Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge. A rustic and eco-friendly lodge nestled at the foot of the Great Rift Valley wall. A day dedicated to exploring the unique wonders of Lake Natron. This alkaline lake is the primary breeding ground for millions of lesser flamingos. You can take a walk along the shore (best viewed with binoculars) to see vast flocks of these pink birds. A highlight is a guided trek to a stunning waterfall oasis, where you can swim in cool, fresh pools in the middle of the harsh terrain. You may also have the opportunity to visit a local Maasai village to learn about their culture and traditions in this challenging environment.

Lake Natron to Northern Serengeti/Mara River
Lake Natron to Northern Serengeti/Mara River
After breakfast, you embark on a long but incredibly scenic drive into the Northern Serengeti, also known as the Serengeti Mara Region. You will enter the park through the remote Klein's Gate. The landscape here is characterized by rolling hills, acacia woodlands, and the mighty Mara River, which is the stage for the most dramatic event of the Great Migration: the river crossings (typically from late July to October).
Accommodation: Kontiki Kogatende Camp. A classic, mobile tented camp that offers an authentic and intimate safari experience. It is strategically located to provide access to the prime river crossing points. The camp is comfortable but not overly luxurious, focusing on being close to nature—you will truly feel immersed in the wilderness.

A full day dedicated to exploring the Northern Serengeti and the Mara River. Your guide will patrol the riverbanks, looking for concentrations of wildebeest and zebra gathering nervously, waiting to cross. Witnessing a crossing—where thousands of animals brave the crocodile-infested waters—is a raw and unforgettable spectacle of nature. Even outside crossings, the area is rich in resident wildlife, including large herds of topi, eland, elephants, and predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs.

After a final morning game drive in the north, you journey south towards the heart of the Serengeti, the Central Serenera region. This is a game drive in itself, allowing you to experience the changing landscapes of the ecosystem. The Central Serengeti is famous for its year-round excellent game viewing due to its permanent rivers. You are likely to see hippos, crocodiles, and an abundance of wildlife on your drive to camp.
Accommodation: Tukaone Weavers Camp. This tented camp offers a blend of adventure and comfort in the wild. It provides a more intimate and personal experience compared to larger lodges, allowing you to fall asleep to the sounds of the Serengeti night.

A full day to explore the diverse habitats of the Central Serengeti. Your guide will take you to the famous Seronera River Valley, a hotspot for predators. Leopards are often seen draped over branches in the sausage trees, cheetahs scan the plains for prey, and lion prides are frequently found lazing on the rocky kopjes. You'll also see vast herds of impala, buffalo, warthogs, and giraffes.

Enjoy one last morning game drive in the Serengeti before beginning your journey southeast. You will exit the Serengeti and drive up into the highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As you ascend the crater rim, stop at a viewpoint for your first breathtaking look into the caldera below—a preview of the next day's adventure.

Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
Descend the 600-meter walls into the Ngorongoro Crater for a spectacular final morning game drive. This natural amphitheater is home to an astonishing density of wildlife, including the rare black rhinoceros, large pride of lions, elephants, hyenas, flamingos, and thousands of wildebeest and zebra. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the hippo pool before ascending the crater rim in the afternoon. You then begin the drive back to Arusha, where you will be dropped off at either a hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your onward journey.
