The Park is well known for its elephant families, which can often be seen congregating by the river. You may also see giraffe, bushbuck, and hartebeest. It is both majestic (the Great Rift Escarpment towering over the western limit of Lake Manyara) and compact (this is one of Africa's narrowest parks). A tiny Salt Lake is the park's namesake.
