After 4–5 hours of trekking, you’ll reach Simba Camp, set near a pine forest, where you’ll enjoy your first night under Kilimanjaro’s starlit sky.

The trek continues through moorland, offering expansive views of Kibo Peak. The trail gradually ascends, passing heathers and volcanic landscapes. After 5–6 hours of steady climbing, you’ll arrive at Second Cave Camp. This is an excellent acclimatization point, with scenic vistas of the eastern ice fields of Kilimanjaro and the possibility of spotting unique alpine plants and wildlife before resting for the night.

Today’s trek moves deeper into the mountain wilderness with a gradual climb over open moorland. You’ll hike for about 6–7 hours, passing small caves and rugged valleys. The path reveals striking views of jagged peaks like Mawenzi. At Kikelewa Camp, set in a sheltered valley, you’ll experience a more remote and wild atmosphere, ideal for acclimatization and enjoying Kilimanjaro’s dramatic high-altitude environment.

The day starts with a steep climb up grassy slopes, transitioning into alpine desert with less vegetation. The 4–5-hour trek rewards you with breathtaking views of Mawenzi’s rugged spires. You’ll arrive at Mawenzi Tarn Camp, dramatically set beneath Mawenzi Peak beside a mountain lake. This is a key acclimatization stop, giving you time to rest, enjoy the scenery, and prepare for the hig her elevations ahead.

Crossing the lunar desert of the “Saddle” between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, you’ll trek 5–6 hours on a barren but striking landscape. The air becomes thinner as you approach Kibo Hut, your base camp for the summit attempt. After an early dinner, you’ll rest in preparation for the midnight summit climb. This night is all about conserving energy and staying hydrated before your push to Uhuru Peak.

Summit to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Marangu Gate

Summit night begins around midnight with a steep climb over scree and switchbacks toward Gilman’s Point (5,685m). From there, it’s a challenging but rewarding trek to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point, where sunrise paints the glaciers and plains below. After celebrations and photos, you’ll descend to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing to Marangu Gate, where successful climbers receive their summit certificates.
