Begin your climb with registration at Machame Gate before trekking through lush rainforest filled with exotic flora, monkeys, and tropical birds. The trail is often humid and muddy, so pace is key. You’ll ascend gradually, enjoying glimpses of Kibo Peak, before reaching Machame Camp at 3,000m. Dinner and overnight in tents set the tone for the adventure ahead, with the first taste of camping life on Kilimanjaro.

Day 2
Machame Camp to Shira Camp

The trail steepens as you leave the rainforest behind and enter heath and moorland zones. A rocky climb leads to Shira Plateau, offering dramatic views of Mount Meru and the Shira Cathedral. The vegetation thins, and giant heathers dot the landscape. The day’s trek is shorter but steeper, allowing time to acclimatize at Shira Camp (3,840m). Enjoy breathtaking sunsets as the mountain looms closer.

Day 3
Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
This is an acclimatization day, following the “climb high, sleep low” principle. Trek 6–8 hours through alpine desert, reaching Lava Tower (4,600m) where altitude is felt. After lunch, descend into the lush Barranco Valley, passing giant groundsels. You’ll camp at Barranco (3,976m), one of the most picturesque sites, nestled beneath towering cliffs.

Day 4
Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
Begin by tackling the famous Barranco Wall—a fun scramble with sweeping views of the valley below. The trail then meanders across ridges and alpine desert landscapes, with short climbs and descents. After 6–8 hours of trekking, you’ll reach Barafu Camp (4,673m), the base for your summit push. Rest early and prepare for your midnight ascent.

Day 5
Barafu to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Barafu to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Summit night begins around midnight. Ascend slowly over scree slopes toward Stella Point (5,739m), where the sunrise over Mawenzi and glaciers is breathtaking. Push onward to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the Roof of Africa. Celebrate your success, then descend to Barafu for rest and continue to Mweka Camp (3,080m) for a well-earned sleep.

Day 6
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi
A gentle 3–4 hour descent through rainforest takes you back to Mweka Gate (1,640m), where you’ll receive your summit certificate. A vehicle will transfer you back to Moshi, where hot showers, warm meals, and a comfortable bed mark the perfect end to your Kilimanjaro adventure.
