Day 1

Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive to Chogoria town before continuing to the park gate at 2,850m. After registration, begin trekking through lush montane forest, with chances to spot colobus monkeys, bushbuck, or colorful birdlife. The trail gradually ascends through bamboo and heather zones, offering occasional clearings with views of the rolling hills and valleys below. You’ll enjoy a steady pace that allows acclimatization as the air thins slightly. By late afternoon, you arrive at Jumandier Campsite (3,300m), a scenic camp surrounded by moorland vegetation. This is your overnight base, where you’ll settle in, enjoy a hot meal, and rest in preparation for the longer trek the following day.

Day 2

Today’s trek is longer but extremely rewarding. Depart after breakfast, following the trail past rolling hills before reaching the beautiful Lake Ellis, a perfect spot for a short break and photos. From here, the path climbs steadily, revealing panoramic views of the jagged peaks of Mt Kenya and the vast Gorges Valley. You will pass cascading streams and alpine flora such as lobelias and senecios as the trail gains altitude. After several hours of trekking, you arrive at Minto’s Camp (4,300m), perched near the stunning Lake Michaelson. This is a favorite spot for acclimatization, offering dramatic sunset views over the peaks. Evening rest and overnight at camp.

Day 3

Rise before dawn for the most exhilarating part of the climb. Equipped with headlamps, you ascend steeply on scree and rocky terrain towards Point Lenana, Mt Kenya’s third-highest peak (4,985m). Reaching the summit just as the sun rises, you are rewarded with breathtaking views stretching across the Kenyan highlands and, on clear days, even Mt Kilimanjaro. After celebrating and taking photos, descend via the Sirimon side through the Mackinder’s Valley, a dramatic landscape dotted with giant groundsels and unique alpine plants. Continue your trek down to Old Moses Camp (3,300m), where you spend the night in comfort after a long and fulfilling day.

Day 4

After breakfast, start your final descent through moorland and montane forest. The trail from Old Moses Camp is gentle compared to previous days, allowing time to reflect on your accomplishment. You may spot wildlife such as colobus monkeys, duikers, or various bird species along the way. Arrive at Sirimon Gate (2,600m), where your vehicle awaits. Here, you will be met by your driver for the return journey to Nairobi, arriving by late afternoon. This marks the end of your adventure, with memories of sweeping valleys, alpine lakes, and the thrill of summiting Point Lenana.
