Arusha to Momella Gate 1500 m – Miriakamba Hut 2500
Your day begins after breakfast, when your guide picks you up and drives you to Ngongongare Gate. Here, the necessary park paperwork will be completed before continuing through Arusha National Park, with opportunities to stop and observe wildlife along the way. You’ll then arrive at Momella Gate, where a final check of equipment and porters takes place.
From Momella, your 3-day Mount Meru trek officially begins at a pole pole (slowly, slowly) pace. The first day resembles a walking safari, offering a good chance to encounter wildlife such as reticulated giraffes, zebras, waterbuck, and buffaloes. Since the trail runs through a protected area, an armed park ranger will accompany you for safety.
Duration: Approximately 5–7 hours of hiking
Vegetation Zone: Forest.

Miriakamba Hut 2500m – Saddle Hut 3500m
After breakfast, the trek continues along a steep forest trail, with opportunities to spot a variety of birds and wildlife along the way. The trail eventually leads to Saddle Hut, located in the alpine desert zone. Depending on your pace, you’ll arrive in time to enjoy a hot lunch at the camp.
In the afternoon, after a bit of rest, there’s an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820 m). This short excursion offers excellent panoramic views of Mount Meru and its surroundings and helps prepare your body for the summit climb later that night. Dinner will be served early to give you ample time to rest. You’ll be encouraged to head to bed by around 7:00 PM in preparation for your midnight summit push.

Saddle Hut 3500 m – Meru Summit Socialist Peak 4566 m – Arusha
Your summit day begins early at 12:30 AM with a light meal to fuel your final push to the top of Africa’s fifth-highest mountain. The ascent starts on a steep trail leading up to Rhino Point (3,800 m), followed by a steady climb to Cobra Point (4,350 m). From there, the path continues along a narrow, rocky ridge nestled between the crater’s edge and the towering inner cliffs of Mount Meru. You'll reach the summit (4,566 m) just in time to witness the first light of dawn breaking across the horizon. On a clear morning, this is one of the best vantage points for viewing Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. The dramatic drop of the crater walls plunging nearly 1,000 feet adds to the awe of the experience. After taking in the views and celebrating your achievement, you’ll begin your descent back to Saddle Hut, and then continue down to the base.
