5-Day Kilimanjaro Trek – Marangu Route

Moshi/Arusha – Marangu Gate (1843m) – Mandara Hut (2700m)

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Marangu Gate for registration. The trek begins through a lush rainforest filled with towering trees, exotic birds, and occasional monkeys. A gradual ascent leads you to Mandara Hut, where you’ll spend the night.

Mandara Hut (2700m) – Horombo Hut (3720m)

Today’s trek passes through heather and moorland landscapes with sweeping views of Mawenzi Peak. You’ll arrive at Horombo Hut, where you can enjoy panoramic mountain vistas and rest for the night.

Horombo Hut (3720m) – Kibo Hut (4703m)

The trail gradually ascends across the alpine desert, with little vegetation but breathtaking scenery. You’ll trek past the “Last Water Point” before reaching Kibo Hut at the base of the summit. Early dinner and rest before the summit attempt.

Kibo Hut (4703m) – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Horombo Hut (3720m)

Summit day! Around midnight, you’ll begin your final push to Gilman’s Point (5,681m) on the crater rim. After a short rest, you’ll continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement before descending to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut for overnight.

• Habitat: Arctic zone, alpine desert, moorland

Horombo Hut (3720m) – Marangu Gate (1843m) – Moshi/Arusha

A steady descent takes you back through the moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate, where successful climbers receive summit certificates. You’ll then be transferred back to Moshi or Arusha.

• Habitat: Moorland & rainforest
• Accommodation: Hotel in Moshi/Arusha.
