After a transfer to Umbwe Gate, you’ll complete registration before starting the steep trail through dense rainforest. The climb is physically demanding as the path ascends directly up the ridge, eventually reaching Umbwe Camp.

Day 2

The forest thins out into heath and moorland as the trail climbs steep ridges with spectacular views. You’ll continue upward until you reach Barranco Camp, set in a dramatic valley below the Barranco Wall.

Day 3

Begin the day by tackling the Barranco Wall, an exhilarating scramble with breathtaking views from the top. The trail continues through ridges and valleys until reaching Karanga Camp, where you’ll rest overnight.

Day 4

The trail ascends steadily across rocky landscapes with sparse vegetation. After reaching Barafu Camp, you’ll rest and prepare for the midnight summit push.

Day 5

Around midnight, begin your summit attempt with a steep climb to Stella Point (5,739m) and then along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak—the highest point in Africa. After celebrations and photos, descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.

• Habitat: Arctic zone, alpine desert, rainforest

Day 6

A final descent through lush rainforest brings you to Mweka Gate, where successful climbers receive summit certificates. From here, you’ll be transferred back to Moshi or Arusha.
