Day 1
Arusha to Tarangire
Arusha to Tarangire
Your adventure begins early in the morning with a pickup from your hotel in Arusha. After meeting your expert safari guide, you’ll embark on a roughly 2.5 to 3-hour drive to Tarangire National Park, famous for its dramatic landscape filled with ancient baobab trees and the Tarangire River. This park is known for large herds of elephants, especially during the dry season when animals congregate around water sources.
Upon arrival, you’ll dive straight into a thrilling game drive. Tarangire’s diverse habitats mean you’ll have a great chance of spotting lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, impalas and a variety of birdlife such as the colorful lilac-breasted roller or the martial eagle. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch somewhere scenic inside the park before continuing your afternoon drive.
As the sun sets, you’ll exit Tarangire and head toward your lodge or tented camp, which may be located near the park or in the Karatu area, a convenient gateway town to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro.

Karatu to Serengeti
After breakfast, you’ll depart Karatu and head west toward the Serengeti National Park, taking the route through the breathtaking Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This drive offers spectacular scenery: rolling hills, Maasai villages, and grazing livestock set against volcanic highlands.
Continuing south, you’ll reach the Ndutu area, part of the southern Serengeti ecosystem. Ndutu is famous for its short grass plains, which are a magnet for migratory herds, especially during the calving season from December to March. Here, predators such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas take advantage of the abundance of vulnerable young animals.
You’ll enjoy an afternoon game drive in Ndutu, where off-road driving is allowed, enabling your guide to get closer to wildlife without disturbing them. Expect thrilling wildlife encounters, from stalking lions to playful cubs. After a full day in the bush, you’ll return to your tented camp in Ndutu, where you can enjoy dinner under the stars.

Today is dedicated entirely to exploring the Ndutu region. You’ll wake early to take advantage of the cool morning hours when animals are most active. Your guide will tailor the day’s itinerary based on recent wildlife movements and sightings.
The short grass plains and nearby woodlands are alive with wildlife, and this area is arguably the best place to witness the drama of predator-prey interactions, especially during the calving season. You might see lionesses stalking wildebeest calves, cheetahs sprinting after their prey, or hyenas scavenging leftovers.
You can enjoy a bush picnic lunch to maximize your time in the field, or choose to return to camp for a break and a hot meal. In the late afternoon, continue game viewing as animals become more active again in the cooler hours before sunset.

This drive is scenic and offers chances to spot wildlife along the way, including Maasai giraffes and sometimes elephants grazing the forests near the crater rim. Arrive in the town of Karatu or nearby lodges located close to the Ngorongoro Crater rim, where you can unwind and enjoy a hot shower, swim, or stroll through the gardens.
