Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve

Your driver-guide will pick you up in a 4x4 Land Cruiser and you’ll head north through lush farmlands and the dramatic landscapes of central Kenya. The journey is approximately 6–7 hours (about 320 km) and takes you past Mount Kenya, offering scenic views along the way. You will arrive at Sarova Shaba in Samburu in time for lunch. After a brief rest, embark on your first game drive in the reserve, where unique wildlife such as the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, and Beisa oryx—the so-called Samburu Special Five—await. As the sun sets over the rugged hills and the Ewaso Nyiro River, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Samburu National Reserve

Today is dedicated to exploring Samburu with both morning and afternoon game drives. The early morning hours are the best time to spot predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs before they retreat from the heat of the day. Between drives, enjoy lunch and leisure time at your lodge, where you can relax by the pool or simply soak in the views of the surrounding wilderness. In the afternoon, return to the reserve for another safari experience, where elephants are often seen bathing in the Ewaso Nyiro River, and a wide range of bird species fill the skies. Samburu offers a more rugged and less-crowded safari experience, making it especially rewarding for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers alike. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Samburu – Nairobi

Wake up early for a final morning game drive in Samburu, where the dawn light gives the landscape a magical glow and wildlife is most active. This is your last chance to spot any animals you may have missed, from herds of elephants to the elusive leopard. After the game drive, return to the lodge for breakfast, then check out and begin your journey back to Nairobi. The drive once again takes you past Mount Kenya and through changing scenery, offering a chance to reflect on the incredible experiences of the past few days. You will arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon, where your driver-guide will drop you off at your hotel or at the airport, marking the end of your Samburu adventure.
