Depart Gondar after breakfast and drive north to Debark, gateway to the Simien Mountains National Park. After securing entry permits and meeting your trekking team, continue into the park where jagged cliffs and sweeping plateaus unfold. Begin a short acclimatization hike along the escarpment, offering dramatic views and your first encounters with Gelada baboons grazing on the highland grasslands. Camp under the stars at Sankaber.

Day 2

Today’s trek takes 5–6 hours across rolling Afro-alpine terrain, passing through fields of giant lobelias and crossing streams that carve deep valleys. A highlight is the breathtaking Jinbar Waterfall, plunging into the depths below. Along the way, watch for klipspringers and raptors soaring above the escarpment. The trail gradually ascends toward Geech Plateau, where a remote campsite awaits amid vast highland meadows. Overnight in tents at Geech.

Day 3
Geech – Imet Gogo – Seha – Kedadit – back to Geech

Set out on a full-day circular hike to some of the most stunning viewpoints in the park. Climb toward Imet Gogo (3,926m), a dramatic promontory offering endless vistas over volcanic spires, deep valleys, and eroded pinnacles. Continue via Seha and Kedadit, each viewpoint revealing new angles of the rugged escarpment. The sense of scale is humbling as you trace the horizons of the Ethiopian highlands. Return to Geech for another night under clear, starry skies.

Day 4

Trek 6–7 hours across high ridges and meadows, ascending Inatye Peak (4,070m) for sweeping panoramas across the Simiens. Descend along dramatic cliffs where lammergeyers (bearded vultures) may circle above. As you approach Chenek Camp, keep watch for the endangered Walia ibex clambering along the rocky slopes. The camp, perched at 3,620m, is renowned for its sunrise and sunset views, with mountains stretching endlessly into the distance.

Day 5

Cross the mighty Bwahit Pass at 4,200m, one of the highest trekking passes in Ethiopia, with spectacular views of Ras Dashen, your goal for tomorrow. The trail then descends into fertile valleys dotted with traditional stone-built villages and terraced fields, giving a glimpse into highland life. After a long but rewarding day, arrive at Ambiko, the base camp for Ras Dashen. Prepare for an early start tomorrow.

Day 6
Summit Ras Dashen (4543m) & Return to Gondar

Start before dawn for the challenging climb to Ethiopia’s highest peak. The trail winds gradually upward, crossing rocky slopes and plateaus before the final ascent to Ras Dashen (4,543m). From the summit, savor 360° views over the rugged Simien Highlands — a true “Roof of Ethiopia” experience. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Ambiko, then retrace your steps back toward Chenek where vehicles await for the drive back to Gondar.
