It takes about 45 minutes to descend to the crater floor from the top of the caldera. The floor is home to a rich and highly concentrated wildlife population, around 20,000 mammals of varying sizes, including approximately 20 black rhinos. This makes the crater the best place in Tanzania to see these animals.
