Transfer from Kigali to Karongi – Bay of Islands & Napoleon Island

Meet your tour representative in Kigali and begin the journey to Karongi on Lake Kivu. As you approach the Bay of Islands, enjoy the stunning scenery unique to this part of Rwanda. Stop along the way to island hop, swim in the crystal-clear waters, and have lunch. In the afternoon, visit Napoleon Island, home to thousands of noisy fruit bats competing for the best roosts. Continue paddling a short distance to your campsite on a quiet, uninhabited island, surrounded by native trees and active birdlife. With exclusive access to the island, you can buy fresh fish from local fishermen and cook a simple dinner over an open fire.

Kayaking to Gishayu Island & Coffee Tour

After breakfast, kayak towards Gishayu Island, stopping along the way for a coffee tour in Kibuye or Kinunu. Learn about coffee production and taste local flavors. Pause for lunch on Amohoro (Peace) Island, enjoying the views and reflecting on the lake’s beauty. Paddle back to the starting point along Rwanda’s picturesque, terraced coastline, soaking up the scenery. Full kayaking instructions are provided, and no prior experience is needed. Optional overnight adventure camping at Gishayu Island is available.

Kayaking to Karongi & Transfer to Kigali

After breakfast, check out from your island and begin kayaking back towards Karongi, paddling through inlets and bays while enjoying spectacular lake views and local fishing activity. In the afternoon, your driver will transfer you back to Kigali, a 3.5–4 hour drive, concluding the tour.
