Day 1

At morning fly Addis Ababa to Gondar and drive to Debark, the gateway to the Simien Mountains. At the park headquarters in Debark, you’ll register, meet your guide, scout, cook, and mule handlers, and begin your journey into the highlands.
After a short drive into the park, the trek begins with a gentle hike to Sankaber. Along the way, you’ll be introduced to the dramatic escarpments and lush vegetation. Look out for gelada baboons, endemic to Ethiopia, grazing peacefully in troops across the open grasslands.

Day 2
Sankaber – Geech Camp
Sankaber – Geech Camp
Today’s trek takes you deeper into the highlands, crossing alpine meadows and spectacular ridges. One of the day’s highlights is Jinbar Waterfall, a dramatic cascade that plunges into the gorge below. The trail winds along cliffs offering panoramic views into the lowlands.
After descending into the Jinbar Valley, you’ll climb back up through giant lobelia forests to reach Geech Camp, located on a wide plateau.
Expect to encounter more geladas and maybe a Lammergeier (bearded vulture) soaring overhead.

Day 3
Geech – Imet Gogo – Seha – Kedadit – Geech
Geech – Imet Gogo – Seha – Kedadit – Geech
Today is an acclimatization and exploration day, perfect for adjusting to altitude. You’ll hike a loop trail that includes the Imet Gogo viewpoint (3,926 m), one of the most iconic in the Simien Mountains. From here, enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views of the jagged cliffs, valleys, and distant villages clinging to the mountainsides.
Continue to Seha and Kedadit viewpoints, offering different perspectives of the landscape and geological formations.
Return to Geech Camp for a restful evening and stargazing.

Day 4
Geech – Chenek
Geech – Chenek
This is one of the most scenic and rewarding days of the trek. You’ll cross several ridges and valleys, including the Inatye ridge (4,070 m), the highest point so far. The views from Inatye are vast and dramatic, with cliffs dropping steeply into the lowlands below.
Descending into Chenek, keep your eyes open for the Walia ibex, a rare endemic mountain goat found only in the Simiens. This area is one of the best spots to see them.

Day 5
Chenek – Mount Bwahit
Chenek – Mount Bwahit
Today’s goal is the summit of Mount Bwahit, the second highest peak in Ethiopia. The climb is steep but steady, taking you above 4,400 meters. From the summit, you’ll have extraordinary views across the Simiens and toward Ras Dashen, Ethiopia’s tallest mountain.
The trek is also a chance to observe high-altitude flora and possibly spot Ethiopian wolves, though they are rarer here.
After the summit, descend back to Chenek for a well-earned rest.
