Kariega Game Reserve, nestled in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, is a stunning example of the region’s Albany thicket vegetation, where dense, leafy bush intertwines with open savannah and rolling hills. The reserve is particularly scenic, with the Kariega and Bushmans Rivers winding through the landscape, creating dramatic vistas.
The reserve offers several luxury lodges to choose from, all affiliated under the Kariega brand and offering fully inclusive safari packages. On a typical 2- to 3-night stay, guests are likely to encounter four of the Big Five; elephants, lions, buffalo and rhinos are regularly seen, while leopards remain elusive, as is the case in most Eastern Cape reserves. Wildlife is abundant and varied, and game drives provide excellent photographic opportunities amid the reserve’s scenic hills.
