The Beauty and Splendor of Lake Nakuru Safari
Overall rating
5/5

This was my 4th trip to Africa and my first time to Rhinos live in their natural habitat! Wow! We saw so many species of birds, especially near and around Lake Nakuru. One of the ladies on the safari with me spotted something in the tall grass as we were driving so our driver stopped our vehicle, and out from the grass emerged a mama lioness and two of her cubs! This was also the first time to see a leopard in natural habitat! The giraffes and zebras always put a big smile on our faces! The curled horns of the Cape Buffalo and their curious sounds peaked our interest as we observed them. The ladies and I were also captivated by the beautiful plant-life all along the roadways as we drove on further and further into the preserve. The weather was wonderful - cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon. Our driver/guide made sure we stayed hydrated by providing us with bottled water! GoFan Safaris is the way to go to see Africa!

I wish we had spent more time in Lake Nakuru Reserve, it is actually very beautiful and we certainly saw rhinos (both withe and black ones!). However, we found far was less bird wildlife than expected (specially flamingoes, as there was only a small group of no more than 40 specimen.

A scenic place for great birding
Overall rating
5/5

On a two-day trip to Lake Nakuru during the wet season in June, I didn't really expect much wildlife activity. But it was still worth a try because we were told that the place is quite scenic, a large tucked in a valley, surrounded by hills. That's not quite the stereotypical image of Kenyan landscape.
It rained in the afternoon when we reached our camp and the night was fairly cold. But the next morning was all clear skies and sunny, pleasant weather.
The birding was great and we even saw some flamingoes. Wildlife sightings were very satisfying too, we saw a family of the rare black rhino, giraffes, a couple of lion sightings and jackals. The rock hyrax was an unexpected delight.
The Flamingo Hill Camp is a comfortable place to stay. Maybe because it was the off-season, we saw no other safari vehicle and our time there felt quite exclusive. The lake looks spectacular from the Baboon Hill viewing spot. I would visit the place over and over!

Nice park, more beautiful then expected!

I'm not a fan of fenced in parks, they just feel like really nice zoos to me, but this one is very beautiful and does have lots of animals. I read online about the lack of flamingos, but I saw many of them on my visit, not the thousands you see in the icon photos, but enough to feel like the park had lots of them, so I wasn't disappointed. I'm not planning on going back anytime soon, the fence and town around the park killed this one for me, but if you can get past that, the park is stunningly beautiful and the wildlife viewing is top notch!

Lake Nakuru is more jungle then anything else. You can see rhinos, but less lions etc.

The driver did not seem to be very keen to show us the best or may be there is no "best" there. I am not sure which one is the reason for my disappointment for having chosen this one as part of my vacation package.

Very beautiful park I liked more than Masai Mara, at sunrise the landscape is stunning! Wildlife here is not as rich as Masai Mara but still worth a one day visit

Beautiful park, lots of birds although fewer game. The Flamingo Hills camp we stayed in was luxurious and perfect for encountering rare birds on the verandah of your tent.
