Lake Nakuru is teeming with wildlife. Recent rises in water levels have reduced the number of flamingoes in the lake. The views from Baboon Cliff are still as spectacular as before.

The serene lake is the grazing ground for many herbivores, from white rhinos to zebras. I saw so much wildlife in two drives--before sunset and after sunrise, where were the best times to spot animals. The weather was gorgeous in Feb, although very cold in the morning so gear up and wear a down feather jacket and a scarf. The tour operator we booked with put us at a guesthouse inside the park. It's a no frill place but secure with fences around the property. The tour company also dispatched a chef to cook for us. The food was okay but we were not too demanding nor picky anyway. The mini van from the tour company was outdated and very bumpy on dirt roads and unpaved paths. I wish it was a Jeep with better suspension system. Our guide was knowledgeable and great at spotting animals for us to see.

There were more animals and water birds to be seen at Lake Nakuru. There were more greenery. Tall trees and more birds here. The scenic beauty of the lake above average.

At Nakuru we spotted the Back Rhino right next to the camp as we were going out for game drive. It waited, gave us photo pose, crossed the road before vanishing in to the bushes. There were lions sleeping on the hill slope close to the road, and giving us perfect pose to capture on our cameras. Adding to the adventure our driver and cook helped another vehicle to replace a Tyre of another car which had a puncture right in front of the sleeping lions. The lions woke up after replacement was done as the people were boarding the vehicles and got a shock seeing them out of the vehicles.
White Rhinos were sighted very closely like as if we could talk to them as they crossed the road. Our driver was always keeping us at a safe distance and would move away from them seeing their reactions.

Lake Nakuru was the place where we ticked off the big five even before going to Masai Mara. The beauty of this park lies in its terrain and is simply breathtaking. Lion hill a must visit and that is where we were lucky enough to spot 4 lions!

As this was our first stop on our trip to Kenya we did not know what to expect. The accommodations at Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge were comfortable and food delicious. We were greeted after each game drive with warm, wet facecloths as we arrived at the lodge. As the nights were cool we found hot water bottles in the bed to warm it up. A surprise the first night but nice to crawl into a warmed bed on a cool evening. The guides were wonderful and very knowledgeable. We did two game drives a day (sun rise and later afternoon) and there was always something new to see. Seeing white and black rhinos was amazing along with lions, baboons, hippos, and many other animals. The weather was just right with 20-23 C in the day and evenings around 10-12 C. My kind of temperatures. As it was a photo safari our guides knew where to go for the best shots. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and definitely would recommend it to others.

This was my 4th trip to Africa and my first time to Rhinos live in their natural habitat! Wow! We saw so many species of birds, especially near and around Lake Nakuru. One of the ladies on the safari with me spotted something in the tall grass as we were driving so our driver stopped our vehicle, and out from the grass emerged a mama lioness and two of her cubs! This was also the first time to see a leopard in natural habitat! The giraffes and zebras always put a big smile on our faces! The curled horns of the Cape Buffalo and their curious sounds peaked our interest as we observed them. The ladies and I were also captivated by the beautiful plant-life all along the roadways as we drove on further and further into the preserve. The weather was wonderful - cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon. Our driver/guide made sure we stayed hydrated by providing us with bottled water! GoFan Safaris is the way to go to see Africa!
