Chilo at Cuckoo Safaris – The Best Guide I've Ever Met in 40 Countries! ❤️
I've traveled to around 40 countries and joined countless tours around the world, but I've honestly never met a guide quite like Chilo from Cuckoo Safaris! He didn't just give us an amazing tour of Victoria Falls — he made the entire experience unforgettable, from weeks before we arrived until long after we said goodbye.
We were looking for a private guide who could take lots of fun photos and creative videos while making our visit to Victoria Falls fun and memorable. ChatGPT helped me discover Cuckoo Safaris and Chilo.
From our very first WhatsApp conversation, Chilo welcomed us with incredible warmth and enthusiasm. He was always responsive, friendly, thoughtful, and full of useful information. He kept in touch throughout the weeks leading up to our visit, even counting down the days until we would finally meet!
His excitement was contagious! We were already laughing and enjoying our conversations long before we arrived in Zimbabwe. Booking a private guide from Japan can sometimes feel uncertain, but with Chilo, I never had a single moment of worry. I felt as though I already had a wonderful friend waiting for me in Victoria Falls.
And when the day finally arrived, he exceeded every expectation! At every viewpoint, he enthusiastically took photo and video, patiently trying different angles and compositions until I was happy with the results. He never made us feel rushed. He genuinely cared about capturing our memories beautifully.
But what impressed me just as much was his extraordinary hospitality. Chilo carried a heavy cooler box throughout our tour so that we could always enjoy cold drinking water. It was such a thoughtful gesture, and a perfect example of how much he genuinely cares about his guests' comfort.
His kindness went far beyond the tour itself. When we mentioned our dinner plans, transportation needs, and activities for the following day, he helped arrange convenient transfers to fit our schedule. Everything worked smoothly, and the drivers arrived right on time. Thanks to Chilo, we could simply relax and enjoy our holiday without worrying about logistics.
And perhaps the most special part? His care didn't end when the tour ended. He continued checking in on us, asking whether we were enjoying the rest of our stay. Even after we left Zimbabwe, he messaged to ask how our flights were going, where we were, and whether we had arrived home safely in Japan.
To me, this is the difference between someone who simply does a job and someone who genuinely loves making people happy. By the end of our trip, Chilo was no longer just our guide. He had become our friend — and I truly hope that friendship will last for many years.
After visiting around 40 countries and experiencing so many different tours, I can confidently say that Chilo is one of a kind. His enthusiasm, thoughtfulness, professionalism, generosity, humor, and genuine warmth are something very special.

Cuckoo Safaris is an Outstanding Tour Operator
We did a 15 day safari booked through Cuckoo that included Zimbabwe and Botswana and it was wonderful! Cuckoo did a fabulous job working with us over a few months to refine the itinerary and work out all of the details of the logistics, lodgings, transportation and guides. Tatenda was our main contact in the office during this time and he was amazing in timely communications, responding to numerous questions, and always over the top in his help. When there was a problem/issue--and over a 15 day trip to 3 countries stuff happens!--Tatenda was there and fixed it. The trip price was very reasonable and very competitive compared with the offerings of other safari companies. It was the clear indication from the git go that Cuckoo was the better choice given Tatenda's care and attention to us before we even booked the trip. As two women basically traveling solo, we felt very comfortable and safe knowing that all the details were covered. Cuckoo also places a high priority on working with local communities and partners and we appreciated that commitment to keeping our tourism dollars local. We had an incredible trip with the help, advice and care of Cuckoo. I would highly recommend Cuckoo Safaris!
The best I have ever had!
For the price, this was a fantastic tour. The two guides, Del and Tubi were very personable, inviting and covered the history and details of the falls. They took pictures for me, explained and answered any question I had. They made me feel welcomed and were by my side throughout the boarder crossing. I highly recommend this tour and with these two guides.

The views were breathtaking on both sides, but what made it truly special were our guides.
On the Zimbabwe side, our guide Langa was such an amazing, kind and patient lady - she made sure we saw everything and explained everything so beautifully.
On the Zambia side, our guide Lucky was also an amazing guy - very knowledgeable and friendly.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Victoria Falls. Thank you for making it so memorable
