Smooth and Exceptional Journey Through the North and South of Ethiopia
When I first was looking for reliable tour operator to help plan my trip in Ethiopia, I have my worries and doubt on whether any of the advertised companies on this Website are trustworthy and can do a good job. So it is with much caution that I engage Discover Simien Tour, and got in touch with Sahlie, the manager and guide for our trip. With much deposit money sent to him before we even begin our journey (we're a big group), the risk of getting duped is very much in my mind.
By the time we touch down in Addis Ababa, and meet up with Sahlie face to face, it was all good and the trip started out great. We were well taken care of every step of the way. Even when there's hiccups along the way (we had to modify our itinerary for a few days due to sudden cancellation of our domestic flight in Mekele), Sahlie made sure that the trip goes on with alternate activities, hotels and ensured we still have enjoyable and memorable moments.
In terms of communication, Sahlie may sometimes be a little slow in responding due to his busy work, but rest assured he delivers on what he promised, and much more. It has been a great collaboration with him, and he is willing to go the extra mile to make his clients achieve their needs, whether it's applying for drone permit, special access to photography etc.
I would highly recommend this company, Discover Simien Tour, and specifically Sahlie for his wonderful and professional, yet friendly and accommodating approach to helping us get the best out of our trip. And thanks to him, our tour of northern and southern parts of Ethiopia became an unforgettable journey of a lifetime.

Comprehensive support from Discover Simien Tour
We group of five luckily joined Discover Simien Tour, the manager Sahlie also as guide, travel with us along Erta Ale, Danakil Depression and Lalibela, everythings was well organised including transportation, meals, coordinate local guide. He spotted and described very clear about each specific attraction, made us more understood the environment and culture of different places. Their crew was full support including driver and chef especially in desert region, which are very hot and even under limited resources, we felt comfortable. The scenery of salt lake and Danakil depression is incredible and spectacular!
If you like mountains, you have to hike in Simien mountains range, we went on Feb is dry season, the scenery is amazing like mini Grand Canyon and saw some animals e.g. Gelada monkeys, Bushbuck,Walia Ibex, many birds and the special plant Giant Lobelia can be found along the way. We joined 4 days Simien mountain trip to Ras Bwahit, hike up gradually, easy adapted, we have wonderful hiking experience with wonderful views. The chef and mountain guide were very helpful, provided us nice meal, comfortable tent and comprehensive guiding along the way.
Not only natural scenery, if you like culture, you have to go to South of Ethiopia, Turmi and Omo Valley, there are many tribes, we visited 5 tribes in 4 days, e.g. Hamar, Daasanach, Karo, Konso and Dorze, each of the tribes have own culture and living habit. The local guides introduced us clearly about their own tribes, made us more understood and seems live is not easy but they are enjoyable.
If you still have time, you have to visit Axum and Lalibela, the historical importance of Axum, the ruins of the Axumite Empire, it was the founder affected all over the places. The Rock-hewn churches of Lalibela definitely worth to visit, their construction was amazing, known more their religion and history.
We spent 17 days in Ethiopia, luckily found Discover Simien Tour from Safari booking. They arrange comprehensive itinerary in many parts of Ethiopia, we felt safe and enjoyable in the natural scenery, culture and history.
