5/5

After a lot of research I came across Tapestry of Africa Tours and Safaris. I contacted Matt Jensen and was impressed by his knowledge ,enthusiasm and commitment to ensuring that our Safari would be the best experience ever. He did not disappoint. Everything, from the staff, accommodations, meals, and of course the daily Safari drives were top notch. Having traveled a lot I have to say this vacation was unforgettable and a longtime dream come true for me.

The perfect combination of adventure, luxury, and excellent customer service
5/5

From start to finish, this Kenya safari exceeded every expectation I had. The itinerary took us through an incredible variety of parks and reserves, each with its own landscape, rhythm, and wildlife personality. One moment we were watching elephants wander across the savannah, and the next we were quietly observing big cats in their natural habitat. The sheer range of animals we encountered made every game drive feel like I was living in “Planet Earth.”

What truly elevated the experience, though, was our guide, George. He wasn’t just a driver—he was a master driver, spotter, and photographer all in one. His knowledge of the parks, animal behavior, and local culture added depth to every moment. Thanks to him, we never felt like passive observers; we were participants in something extraordinary.

The camps and resorts were equally impressive. Each one blended comfort with authenticity, offering warm hospitality, beautiful design, and thoughtful touches that made us feel both pampered and connected to the environment. Elephants Bedroom was a particularly immersive experience with up-close encounters with elephants, monkeys, and even a crocodile!

But perhaps the most remarkable part of the entire journey was the level of customer service and communication. Every detail—big or small—was handled with care, clarity, and genuine warmth from Matt and his team. From the planning stages to the final farewell, I felt supported, informed, and valued. It’s rare to find a company that operates with this level of professionalism and heart.

If you’re considering a safari in Kenya, look no further than Tapestries of Africa.

Trip of a Lifetime. No regrets!
5/5

We went on a once in a lifetime trip with Tapestry of Africa in January 2026 – to Kenya and Tanzania. Summary: we can’t recommend Tapestry enough.

But here are some of our thoughts from start to finish.

We initially contacted a number of safari providers – all of which had excellent recent reviews. This was the bar to entry for us. We chose Tapestry based on our level of comfort after a briefing call with the owner Matt. He clearly had a high level of expertise. He set us at ease. And we got a feeling this company had a nice balance of professionalism (later we would get emails on everything from packing lists, to tipping to vaccines) and personalised service. We did not feel like one of hundreds of clients. We felt like we crafted a bespoke trip with confidence. Despite being Canadian, we felt at ease booking with Matt, and his American-based company.

Other good points – pricing was on par with other companies. There was a super network of support in Africa (thanks Hilda!), and the fact that part of our trip went to supporting Matt’s charity that gives dentistry services to local people in Africa was a lovely silver lining.
We were able to customize almost every detail of our trip. We edited certain lodges that we wanted or opted out of. We chose how long we were at each location. We opted for ground travel vs. flights. Every detail could be executed exactly as we wished. We had rounds of revisions to our itinerary, and it was never a problem. We had confidence in our choices because Matt had actually been to most of the parks we chose, and was able to give us first hand advice.

Accommodations chosen (we did upper level to luxury lodges, but not super luxury) were all winners. Food, security, rooms – each time we arrived at a location we were thrilled to discover our new home for the next few nights.

Guides. Your guide will make or break your trip. We had one in each country, and each had their specific strengths. BOTH were absolutely amazing at finding animals. The wildlife we saw defies description. We saw the Top 5. We saw the Ugly 5. We saw cheetahs making a kill, and lions sunbathing with their wildebeest carcass next to them. Elephants walking feet away never became novel. We did safari mostly for the animals and geography of the area – and our guides made that happen in spades.

Our safari days were safe. The guides respected the land and the animals we were so lucky to be surrounded by. And when someone has passion for their job – its obvious. Ours was a private safari (just us and our guide) so we could tailor our days as we pleased. Want to end early because jet lag has you zonked – ok. Want to leave at dawn for a balloon ride – ok. If it was possible, the answer was always yes. If you want to (repeatedly) ask if you can get out of the truck and pet something – the answer will always be no. But I kept trying ;)

Our guides were professional, punctual, skilled drivers and animal finders (imagine laser vision that would astound you!). A special mention goes to our guide Kim in Kenya. We really do hope to stay in touch with Kim, as he was so personable and kind. We made a friend outside of the safari truck, and that was one of the most special surprises of the trip. If you can ask for Kim – ask for Kim.

We would like to think that as clients we are easy enough to work with. But we had some special needs. My partner had a special request that was kept entirely secret from me – and everyone went above and beyond to make this happen. Hilda was exceptional before, during, and after our trip. She is the puppet master making sure all goes well behind the scenes. When we had a bit of stomach upset, likely just jet lag, she was so supportive and available to us constantly “but not after 11pm, as I will be sleeping” – that kind of support. We didn’t have any glitches during our trip – but I’m guessing if we did they would have been made right in no time.

We would not hesitate to suggest Tapestry of Africa. For us this was our biggest adventure to date, and Tapestry and all it’s staff really made it seamless, stress-less, and the trip of a lifetime.

Incredibly responsive, highly knowledgeable, and an absolute pleasure to work with.
5/5

We had an absolutely incredible, truly life-changing experience. The guides were exceptional, warm, knowledgeable, and attentive, caring for us as if we were family. We felt completely safe, deeply supported, and genuinely welcomed every step of the way. Seeing the Big Five up close, in such close proximity and in their natural habitat, was unforgettable and profoundly moving

Trip of a lifetime with Tapestry of Africa - 11 day safari to Kenya and Tanzania
5/5

I will start this review by saying that some of us in the group had been on safari 12 yrs ago, myself included and absolutely loved it. Now fast forward, I couldn’t find the company I had used 12 years ago for Kenya but I had used Basecamp for Tanzania and they are still in business. That does not surprise me as they were excellent.
This time around I found out about safaribookings.com from Tripadvisor and went to check it out. That is where I found Tapestry of Africa. They did both Kenya and Tanzania so I wouldn’t have to do the coordination between the two countries myself and could use just one company. Perfect!
12 years ago, I had to wire deposits and final payment to the two companies I used and that is somewhat stressful. If you have ever done it, you know what I mean. I don’t know about all the companies now-a-days but with Tapestry of Africa I was able to pay by credit card which was a big deal for all of us. It was a painless process.
They were a fairly new company at the time that I booked which had me treading carefully. They only had a couple of reviews on their site and had no presence at all on Tripadvisor yet. So I called them and had a conversation with Matt and many, many emails. He sent me all their licenses and other documentation and worked with me tirelessly to come up with the perfect safari itinerary for myself, my husband, my sister, her husband, my nephew and our parents. In short he earned our trust. He was very patient and helpful, all the time.
Matt always responded VERY quickly to any questions, suggestions and changes that we made. He was absolutely wonderful to talk to and very genuine.
Some of the camps that we stayed at were suggested by Matt and some of them I found. Between the two of us we came up with an awesome itinerary for us. We had a budget we wanted to stick to and I told him what we were looking for in places we would stay. From that he could determine what would work for us. He did that beautifully! All the camps were amazing.
We had the added dimension of the fact that my parents are 82 and 84 years old. My dad, at 84, often walks with a cane and can be unsteady. I asked if we could have a step stool to help my dad get into the land cruiser. The answer was of course and each vehicle always had a folding step stool to help my dad into the truck. We had three different guides as we went from Kenya to Tanzania and back to Kenya again. All three guides were wonderful, very knowledgeable, so patient and helpful with my dad, great spotting all the wildlife and good drivers. I cannot say enough about all of them. We learned so many new and interesting things that I didn’t know from the last time.
I would highly recommend Tapestry of Africa to anyone. They will take care of you and make your safari absolutely wonderful. In fact, we are looking to go Uganda next year and would really like it to be Tapestry of Africa that takes care of that trip also.
If you are thinking of going on safari, just do it. And hire Tapestry of Africa to be your guides and take care of your group. You won’t be disappointed. Worth every penny.

Excellent tour and would highly recommend
5/5

This tour changed our prospective on life and made us aware that life isn't just about what we possess, but happiness and appreciation of how these people live in the moment. We have done a lot of travelling and the people of Kenya and Tanzania were some of the friendliest that we have encountered. My husband is 84 years old and has trouble walking. The guides went out of their way to accommodate him. They had a stool to help him in and out of the vehicle and aided him in walking the paths and stairways. The guides were most knowledgeable about the animals and birds and even this 82 year old brain learned something new every day. The accommodations were A1. Better than many hotels we have stayed at and the food was extraordinary and plentiful. We would highly recommend Tapestry of Africa to anyone.

Amazing in every way!
5/5

This truly was a trip of a lifetime thanks to the care and attention to detail of Tapestry of Africa. From our initial outreach to Matt, one of the co-founders, to the day-by-day interaction with Hilda, Albert's (the other co-founder) warm welcome and wonderful send-off we couldn't have asked for anything more! We had two guides -- one for Kenya (Joe) and one for Tanzania (Josphat) really made this a special experience. They were extremely knowledgeable and able to spot the best animals a mile away! Thanks to their eagle eyes we didn't miss a thing! We even saw two leopards and the elusive black rhino. All of our accommodations were excellent, but the Breezes Resort in Zanzibar was a special treat and the perfect way to end our safari. Other highlights of our trip (I was with my sister) were: the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, a hot air balloon ride at dawn, and a visit to a spice farm and Stone Town in Zanzibar, including an al fresco lunch of authentic Swahili food. Matt and Hilda were especially helpful in tailoring our trip to accommodate all our specific requests and helping with several last minute changes that we requested. My sister and I would recommend Tapestry of Africa without any hesitation to anyone who wants to go on Safari. Be sure to stay at Mbali Mbali Camp, my personal favorite!

Great Private Safari
5/5

We had a great tour. Guide was from Uganda and knew all the best places to go. Saw everything we wanted to see and jewels the guide shared. Because I knew nothing about Uganda, I sent a wish list and they created an itinerary and handled the logistics.

Very professional and flexible.
5/5

From the very first email we knew we made the right choice in tour companies. We had made several changes before deciding on a tour package and at no time were we made to feel that we were being a bother. They worked with us to make sure we got the best experience within our price range
On the first day of our tour we were met by our guide Joe, who would be with us on the first half of our Safari as well as Albert one of the owners of the company. They were both very enthusiastic and made us feel right at home. We visited Nairobi National Park and we could have ended our Safari there as we saw more than we expected on our first day. The next several days with Joe were amazing as we saw so many many Lions and cubs ( my favorite ) as well as Elephants with their babies ( my sister's favorite ). When it was time to say good bye to Joe, he introduced us to our next guide, Joseph who was also enthusiastic and welcoming. The days we spent with him were just as amazing!
Both our guides were friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and a lot of fun. They made our experience more than we could have hoped for! We ended our Safari in Zanzibar which was beautiful and a great way to end!!

I will be recommending Tapestry of Africa Tours to anyone I know that would like to go on Safari in Africa!!
